Big Iron chute out avy

reading the bc forum and talking to freinds who were there this is traggic
and hearing the mayors response to the the big iron being and unsanestioned event send chills.... sledders are responsible people this could of happened to the sking community too.....there is no predicting mother nature....I pray the # of loss are low:brokenheart:

sucks for the families and the people who are missing and that died, at least there were 100's to help in the search.

Avi warnings have been extreme all over the Province for the last while. Another black eye for the snowmobiling community. My condolences go out to the families

I don't understand why the event wasn't canceled or postponed since it was known that avy danger was extremely high. Seems very irresponsible on the part of the promoters and organizers of the event. Seems like there should be some accountability when event organizers have such little regard for people's safety.

Gotta agree with your logic S&S............

Bottom line is people need to be responsible for THEMSELFS. I talked to a couple of people who were there(in revy) and they both said they stayed away from that hill because it was a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.

The BC avy center posted EXTREME avy warnings for the two days leading up to yesterday and asked that everybody use alot of caution going ANYWHERE.There was no reason to be near any hill yesterday.

This is going to have a huge impact on being able to ride in revy.....

Maybe they should not of held the event. Everyone there were on their own will and I cant stand it when I hear stuff like this. Somebody trying to blame somebody else.

Hope the best for everyone involved. From personel experience I know all the what if's and feelings going through everyone's mind involved. Has everyone been located?

Cant blame the organizers. They pick a date and move forward, can't control mother nature. Check conditions and be aware. I am sorry to hear about this and hope for the best outcome possible. Prayers to all and thanks too those who could help.

So you just can't stand it when someone has an opinion that doesn't fall in line with yours? Sorry to piss you off so much by voicing an opinion that opposes yours. I guess I should check with you first before I post anything.

At any rate, I said "some accountability", not full blame. Bottom line: if the event had been canceled due to high avy danger those people would not be dead. That is the fact of the matter, whether you can stand it or not.

You can't control mother nature, but events can be canceled/postponed due to conditions. For example, if there is lightning in the area, they make you get off the golf course. I suspect that the decision to not cancel the event was driven by money, but the real cost was lives lost.

Skis and skid is very logical on this one. Agreed that you should look after your own arse..none the less an organized event should have a tiny amount of common since and if the conditions are not resonable to someone with a reasonable amount of intelligence it should have been reschedualed. I am not saying they are ultimitly responsible...we all know they didnt tell the mountain to come unglued. It is about responsibility and the concern of human life, especially for the spectators. Where there any children in the crowd?

For example, and one should be able to see many others easily, Nascar takes efforts to insure driver and spectator safety. There are accidents, and tragic ones..but with a degree of responsibility these can and should be minimized.

Heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to all parties and their families.
Best Regards, Mark

I understand the climbing on turbo was scheduled to be Sunday so people were there on their own.....someone correct me if this is wrong! ???
