BFG AT's

Hey guys... putting new tires on my 01 f350. Priced out BFG AT's with E load range. I have heard mixed reviews on these tires. Have heard that they really get worn down in a hurry and i won't be happy with them for that reason. Just wondering if any of you guys have run these tires on your DIESELS.

I've got BFG Rugged Trails on my 07 Mega Cab, stock tires, and they flat out suck!!!! I've heard the AT's are better and see quite a few of them on Diesels, I'm a big fan of the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's and I think that's what I'll be putting on before winter. I've also run the Firestone Transforce and they seem to be a good tire also.

When it comes to tires... there will be as many opinions/experience as there are with oil.

Edit: just saw your running an 01 F350, I had a 00 F250 and got almost 60k out of a set of Dueler's. Mostly highway miles and religious rotation.

i run them and like em. they get surprisingly good traction in snow/ice. alot quiter on pavement vs mud terrians. i thinj they wear pretty well too. kind of pricey. i got mine off a parts truck free, near new. i would recommend them.

i have heard great things about the bfg's but i hear they suck on ice. kumho has some nice tires that i hear wear like iron. can't go wrong with the open country at's.

I only run BFG KO's on my fleet of 1/2 and 3/4 pick-ups most of the use is on gravel roads and pavement. All the BFG Light Truck tires are made out of a very hard rubber compound. Those tires HAVE to be rotated every oil 5,000 miles to wear good and last a long time. It you put then on and don't rotate them you will get 1/2 the life out of them. We only use the 10 Ply and if we are unlucking we will have 2-3 flats on a set of tires over the life of the entire set of 4, and those flats are in the last year, when the tread is lowest. 15 units in the fleet have proven the tire to me, but as I said, They have to be rotated every 5K miles. Great in mud and snow, and haven't had any negative issues on the ice. Hope this helps

Best all around tires I've ever had on a truck imho!

I've had Dueler AT's and MT's, BFG MT's and AT's, Goodyear MTR's and ATS's and RTS's, Nitto Terra Grapplers all on different trucks diesel and gas... I will buy nothing but BFG AT's from now on for what I do with my truck... Daily driving on pavement, gravel, snow and ice, with a few sled pulls a year and a few times to the drag strip... Plus pulling small 10klb and less trailers a few times a year...

They wear fast if you tow/haul heavy loads with them. I like the tire for traction , looks, they are quiet, have good road feel too, but did I mention that they wear out way too fast?

I have got over 40,000 on my last three sets. Don't get why everyone says they wear fast. Tried Pro Comps...got less than 20,000. Toyo...not too much better. In my opinion they are superior on ice than most other off road/AT tires. good in snow. terrible in mud. they dont clean out very well.

Bfg

One of the nicest looking tires mounted with the big white letters but I feel one of the absolute worst on glare ice highway driving. Ice and freezing rain traction is terrible. All other mud snow rain is good until they wear a little and any wear on them at all greatly reduces their traction. They are very hard compound for ice driving. This has been my experience with them.

bfg's are crap. They dont last worth $h!t!!!! I would look into the bridgestone revos, or the yokohama geolanders. I liked the revos alot more than the geolanders (geolanders tend to pick up stones when new). I have not tried the revo 2's yet but im sure they are just as good as the originals (and cheaper). Those two tires I have found on my 2000 F250 to wear the best and last a long time. They are not load range E but they are a high load range D. In my opinion and experience you dont need the E really unless you are going to load that truck everyday to the gills and come across the scales at 25k lbs. I haul 22k pounds consistantly with my truck and ive never had a blow out and still get 30-35K out of each set of tires which I find to be pretty good considering the weight I pull constantly. But as was said good tire rotation schedule is KEY.

We are having real good luck with the Firestone Transforce AT. Trucks that are running them are '04 250 powerstroke, '05,'06 350 powersrtokes and '08 3500 duramax. All trailer pulling work trucks and the tires are wearing well. Ten times better that the stockers that come with the trucks.

I've had a few sets of damn near any kind of A/T tire that's out there, and the BFG's IMO are the best overall A/T tire you can buy if your driving conditions include a lot of winter driving on snow and slick roads.

I've tried Coopers, Nittos, Goodyears, Kumho, all of them ...

The only tire I really think is as good, if not slightly better in some circumstances, is the Cooper Discoverer ST, but that is also a noisier tire ... It does, IMO, get slightly better traction in the mud. The nod goes to the BFG A/T over the ST in the snow, but that's not to say the ST's don't do well in the snow....I just prefer the BFG A/T's.... and the BFG A/T's are definatley quieter

I've had load range D and E's in 265/75/16 flavor on 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks respectivley, and I'm probably going to continue on with them .. Overall I have never had a better A/T tire.

Avoid the Bridgestone Revo's on any HD truck! Step-dad had them and didn't last long. They are great tires and awesome on the ice. That's because they are a soft compound. HD trucks are too torquey for that tire. I even had guys who sell them at Big-O and Discount tire tell me the same thing.

I'm shopping tires for my HD and leaning toward the BFG AT's or Nitto Grapplers. Seems like there are people that love them and a few that don't like them. I think it comes down to how many miles you put on and how much load you have. Strict rotations are huge in making any tire last.

I hope you dont think the nittos are going to last long? I got 25K out of my set, and got 35K out of my revos. Thats pulling a trailer 2-3 times a week grossing truck and trailer weight at 20K+.

my family runs bfg at's on f350, a ranger, an s10 pickup and a blazer... my dad wont let us buy any other tires they have proven themselves many a times in his eyes and ive never had an issue with them :beer;

BFGs are hard to beat. Especially for the price.
Our snow is more loose/deep/slush so a MT usually works better but a HD truck is so heavy the AT works OK.

I think they grab too many stones though.

Been running Goodyear Wrangler Pro Armors(The E Grade ones) and love them but they wear a bit fast.
Gauging, I'd guess they are gonna go 30-35K.

I run 55 Lbs of air in front, and 45 rear empty, otherwise they wear down the middle on the rear.
1000 Lbs in the back doesnt make them squat much.

I got these on sale for the same Price as BFG AT's, but thats not the case anymore so probably go back when the time comes.

I'm in the same boat. I've had 2 sets in a row now. Rotate every oil change and check pressure religiously and I've gotten excellent wear out of them. Definitely agree with you on the traction. Great in snow, good on ice, terrible in mud. I don't run much mud anyway, so that isn't important to me.

As for the people claiming they are terrible on ice, what are you comparing them to? I found the exact opposite. I just traded trucks this summer and this one came with a set of Bridgestone Dueler Revos and we've already gone through the ice /snow / freezing rain thing this year and they REALLY suck. I can't wait for these things to be worn down enough to go back to the BFG AT's.
