any tips dont like how much it changed my handling would like to make it a 15 wide, cant beleave 1 inch made such a big diff.

I just used a table saw when I cut down mine from 16" to 15". It works good and didnt take that long really. Just set the fence on your table so it includes the width of the saw blade too. This is how I did it.

Track

I did one for a guy, make a heck of a mess. Used a smaller contractors table saw. Set it up on a couple of long 2x10 on saw horses so I could loop the track over the saw and under the planks. That way you don't need to support the whole track while cutting. Kind of a 2 man job. One to help feed while the other guides the cut. Also used a bunch of WD40 to lube the blade rubbing against the cut surface. Again made a heck of a mess but worked good. Longer to clean up that do the actual cut. We had the blade all the way out but I think you could just have it high enough to cut through the belts and finish cutting throught the paddles with a razor bade.

Local shop told me there is an outfit in Edmonton with type of machine to cut tracks, it costs 500 bucks but the shop said that track looks much better and more well done than table saw method

With shipping both directions, you are likely approaching the cost of a new track at $500 to cut one down. Unless you are looking at a custom application.

Hey guys,
Thats funny to me, Hillbilly track cutting. Wouldn't it just be easier to sell the track and get the one you want?

Thats kind of hard to do when they dont make some of the tracks in a 15'' wide model. The 16" tracks wont fit in the polaris IQ raw or pro rmk chassis so the only option for guys wanting to run the 174x3 or 162x3 tracks in them is too cut them down. Its really not that big of a deal to do and I didnt think it made that bad of a mess either and the cut looks clean and finished on mine. Try to get the thinnest blade you can as that really helps I think. I surely wouldnt pay $500 to have a track cut when the most it will cost you is a couple of saw blades and alittle of your time. Hope this helps out some of guys.

REALLY EASY WAY TO CUT A TRACK!!

the easiest way to cut a track is with a bandsaw with steel blade 12-18tpi no lube and run the saw reeeeaaaallllllyyyyyy slow. I used a milwaukee hand held bandsaw took a while but worked reaaaallllyy good.

yes track was only 1000$ i dont need to add that much cost, mine is a 174x3 only made in 16w ,thanks guys looks like i will use the table saw.

Hey guys,
So what kind of horse power are you guys runnin and what type of ridin do you do, a 174x3 inch track kinda seams like 28 inch wheels on a monte carlo. I guess if your going to Revelstoke and pullin monster chutes all day with a 300 hp 4 stroke turbo, makes sense.

Biggest thing i've heard is you want cords to melt back into the rubber so they don't tear out. A fast dull blade so it "burns" though the rubber more than cutting, the movie made it look like no cords where being ruined though. Like when you port a track you take a hole saw and grind off the teeth so it doesn't rip, it burns. The real hillbilly way would be taking the track to the local saw mill and have them cut it in one swoop. hahahaha!

Cut it on a table saw, it'll work out for you!

ride a doo,,,, no trimming, use all 16 of the track. tis a shame to waste a inch of 3inch paddle track. thats like cutting a inch off ur johnson:face-icon-small-sho unheard of

Like people said they don't make a 174 X 3 X 15. I got one ready to cut down for my Cat this yr. I was told to slow the saw down, use lots of lube and then go around with a torch to melt the thread after. I was a naysayer on the 3" due to track speed but the traction difference is a huge benefit. I will run 3" on everything now until they come out with something taller
