Best place to to ride late December?

I think the Polaris Dealer (3-4 miles outside of town) sells out of state permits. But if they don't, or they're out, then there is a Forest Service Office in Granby that does, or maybe Power World in Granby, 16 miles from Grand Lake.

Yes, we bought out of state permits there last year.

Well, depending on where in MN you are you could go I-80 down through Laramie past Walden and through Steamboat Springs and then to our ride in/out secluded cabin rental in NW CO. We have Jan 2-6 still available and we were pounded with huge dumps of snow last week and are scheduled to get snow and more snow all week. Base is about 5 feet and about 4-5 feet of powder on top of that.

Powderchasers had this to say about our weather this week:

Colorado: Snow will be falling heavily late Monday night into Tuesday. On Tuesday winds shift to the West giving direct moisture over all of northern Colorado (Steamboat, Snowmass, Beaver Creek, Vail, Breck, I-70 corridor west of the Divide). Light to moderate snow will continue into XMAS eve. Winds will be strong on Tuesday so look for some possible issues? Amounts should be in the 12-18 inch range in several areas by late Wednesday.

Cheers,
Lisa

Yeah I'm calling BS on that one too! Wolf Creek is in the top 5 in snowfall in all of North America and they don't have that much on the ground. Actually they might right now cause they just got 28" more in the last couple of days out of this latest storm, but you're nowhere near Wolf Creek and the snow in Steamboat was less than stellar until the last 7-10 days.

You do realize that you have 2 Snotel sites near your cabins? One is at Ripple Creek, and appears to be a few miles southwest or your cabin area, and another site at Croshso, which is just about due east of your cabin area. As of 0600 hours on 12-22-15 the Snotel site at Ripple Creek was showing a total snow depth of 56". As of 0600 hours on 12-22-15 the Crosho site was showing a total snow depth of 22". I really hate it when people embellish their snow totals. Silverton Mountain Ski Area is probably one of the worst offenders I know of. When I lived in Winter Park the ski area there was often guilty of it too.

coming from personal experience take things from "wildskies" with a grain of salt. we fell victim to them last year and it was nothing like what they said. they claimed to have had 4 feet of snow in the week before we came and in reality it was maybe 1-1.5 feet and was in the upper 30's to low 40's when it was not snowing so when we arrived it the 20 mile dirt road to the cabin was all mud. also, they are not snowmobiler's and do not ride mountain sleds to really know what is really going on. They show up to check you in and out and that is it. but in other words the cabin in amazing and super nice they just fail to mention there is a 20 mile dirt road you have to take. so i completely agree that the BS flag should be thrown on that one.

I'll agree they have a nice cabin, but the spamming is getting very tiresome.

They need to buy a banner ad, and quit spamming the Colorado section!

If you're going out this week, I'd hit anywhere that is shaded in orange or red on this map!

Perfect snow conditions

We were just at the flat tops cabin Wild Skies. The snow was amazing. There was a really good base and 2-3ft of powder. It snowed everyday we were there including over 16" the day before we left. When we were on the sleds for 3 days we saw 5 sleds total, which made for untracked snow. The cabin is awesome with amazing views and fun for all ages with foos ball, air hockey and tons of games to play.
