Best place to ride???

We are usually riding off trail by mid December here in McCall, Idaho and we have all types of terrain for any level of rider and miles and miles of groomed trails. It's a beautiful and fun mountain town to be in with a lot to offer any winter recreationist!

Good snow in December can be iffy, but if it's a good year I recommend West Yellowstone. There's great trails, great powder meadows, and great hillclimbing, and you can do all three in a day of riding. Coming from the flatlands, it's nice to be able to start on the trails and open meadows and work up the deeper & steeper stuff as your skill level improves.

The bighorns are nice if they get snow, all levels of riding.
This would also be about the shortest drive to mountain riding.

McCall is a good time. I would say ALASKA!!! Had buddies that would always ride Tog in Wyoming. Also seen pictures of them in Revelstoke. Awesome.

My vote goes to Mccall. Crazy mtn bowls, powder covered meadows, trails to hot springs. That place has got it all.

I'd say if you want a well defined trail system with some meadows to play in, etc. Its hard to be the Black Hills of SD. Not much for climbing, but there are a few areas to try. If you want some thing more challenging, the Bozeman, Big Sky area of MT is nice too. Lots of climbing and powder meadows. If you want some more challenging area, Cooke City MT offers plenty of deep and steep. Probably not a good choice for a new mountain rider though.

Wherever you go, find a local rider to take you around for at least the first day. You'll be glad you did. Being lost or riding forever to find decent play areas sucks.

Get the right gear. Rent or buy some beacons, probes, and shovels. Never ride alone. Be safe, and have a ton of fun!
