Best Place to Go? Rabbit Ears or Vail Area??

Went out to Rabbit ears a week ago for the first time and had a good time. Would like to know where would be a good area for off trail riding next weekend? Would like to try the Vail area if it has good snow. or is the Buffalo Pass area better. Will be coming from Iowa.

RE/Buff has done FAR better than Vail this season. I think off trail opportunities are better at RE than Vail Pass overall, but with the current snow, I'd go to RE over VP in a heartbeat right now.

When snow is comparable, VP is certainly good, but right now, VP is _way_ behind on snowfall. Go to RE/Buff.

RE/Buff hasn't gotten any real snowfall since the week of Christmas. Any powder that hasn't been touched has developed a nasty whoar layer and turned to sugar snow. It has settled more than 12" since then too. Thus, exposing any rocks, posts, stumps or just barely covering them. The last storm that dropped 1-5 feet of snow in MT, ID and UT completely missed Colorado NW/N Central Colorado. It's hurting pretty bad.

snow on VP is pathetic. i think there might have been more snow up there last season. head out of state for best snow and if you don't want to wreck your sled

I was at RE yesterday and had great snow. Nothing was sticking out as long as you stayed in the trees and meadows. Over the hood in some places. Didnt hit anything or even see anything. Too high in elevation and there was less powder, too low in elevation and it just felt thin. But in that sweet spot it was awesome!
