Alright the big question. Sound off please. I am not talking about jobs or a place to raise a family I am talking a place to live for the winter and ride, hang out, drink, sleep. Leaving for cooke shortly gonna stay for 2 months and immerse myself but would like to hear from others on where they would head in a situation as such.. i am open to ideas will work for gear trade or something no money needed. As is I have a efficiency in cooke with a kitchenette for $350 a month for dec. and jan. please tell me where you would go.. Factors to consider;

A. Daily living and gas costs
B. proximity to a goood shop
C. Proximity to riding (I prefer places where you can ride from town)
D. Place to eat, drink, and chat

If your wondering why I have this time off its cause I fight fires in the summer and take winters off. Let me know if you have any ideas! Maybe I could help out someone with a project or spend some time in a shop. Mostly interested in seeing some new country and having the best winter possible.

Steamboat,co eh...That was def. not in my radar! Can you ride from town there? I don't think i can afford to pay rent on a short term basis there.. Seems super pricey

I moved to Alpine for all those reasons. I was in Whistler last winter but it was just too far(Im originally from Maine) and in Wyoming I don't have to deal with the border. I work offshore and as a WY resident, I don't have state income tax. Also, thought it's closer to Jackson, it's not a resort town so everything is cheaper, beer, rent, food. Especially compared to whistler 40 bucks for an 18er of PBR!

And I can ride from my door, though I haven't yet. But Ive packed some miles on my PRO this year and had a great time so far. no regrets!

No income tax....hmmm. Thats awesome:face-icon-small-ton! that's definitely a place I am going to be checking out.. I hear Wyoming cops aren't nice? Had a buddy pulled over for like 68 in 65 or something crazy.. The thing I don't like about cooke is its obvious remoteness in relationship to everything else. Alpine is still close to some nice amenities and yet your in a small town.. I like this! Exactly the type of input I was looking for..

Anybody name any other towns that fit this bill?

Just look at where the pros are from, west yellowstone, mccall, ogden, you know there will be good riding in and around those towns. There are also quite a few towns west of Denver that are still close to a big city but they are very small working class towns, Idaho springs, Dumont, even grand lake(another place with trails running through town)

I haven't had any issues with the cops yet, park rangers will throw me a wave if I have my sleds on the deck headed up to TOG. But I'm running in state plates now too, that might help in some way shape or form.
