Were in Olympia too and mostly groomed trail riders.

Although looking at the maps Orr creek, St Helens, and wakepish look closer to us...by the time you drive the twisty mountain roads from Oly, your looking at a 3 hour drive. It is shorter, but slower. However, there are far fewer people and mostly snowed over logging roads to ride on which is good for a family outing. Theres a nice warming hut at Orr Creek too.

We can get up to Snoqualmie in an hour and a half to two hours from Oly, but its definitely busier (read:crowded).

Another three hour drive with a great trail system thats family friendly is the area just north of Leavenworth (Lake Wenatchee/Fish Lake). Definitely worth checking out.

Let me know if youd like to know more...

I took the family to Orr creek and we had a great ride, I think it is a very good family ride area. Lots of groomed trails and open meadows. Wakepish is one of my favorite places to ride but it is not family friendly.

from Oly here. Orr is good. A little ride out of Randle. Greenwater (FR 70) is ok but can get pretty busy. Lot's of groom roads there and quite easy. Greenwater is probably the closest.
