Best Mod Ever?

So I'm sure this has already been covered but it's Summer and I've been getting the itch lately so I've been planning some summer mods. I have a 2011 std RMK 800.

Here's what I've got on the way:
1. Skinz Airframes
2. RSI Burandt Bars
3. Pro Tether
4. Black hood to replace the ugly red one
5. Sending primary to Carl's for balance and Carl's clutch kit
6. Underhood bag
7. Next Level windshield replacement bag

Thinking about a tunnel wrap too but haven't decided yet.

So first question is:

What do you think is hands down the best mod you would say you've done to your Pro?
&
What are you planning for the summer projects?

I haven't had any cooling issues so far but I think that's due to the extra cooler the standard's have on them. It did get a little warm on spring days while riding the trail in until I put scratchers on it and has been great ever since.

I know last year and the year before there were a ton of guys saying you didn't need to change to boards but I couldn't disagree more. After riding a season on my better boards (on my 08 dragon) I hated the boards on my 2011 right off the bat. Rode all year last year with the stockers because I couldn't find a set of Airframes in stock anywhere. I'm really hoping I love the Airframes because it's kind of hard to go back once I cut the sides of my tunnel off.

I haven't read much about exhaust. Does anyone have any input on the gains they've seen with SLP or others? I used to love having a loud sled but I have to admit after riding my stock pro for a year I much prefer the quieter sled now days and some of my buddies sleds actually annoy me.

A silencer is a waste of money on these sleds. There's no hp gained, sometimes a little lost, and the stock one is really not that heavy. The airframes was a pretty fantastic upgrade, but IMO the best upgrades you can do is get the skid valves to your riding weight, and bars set up to where you are the most comfortable. Clutching if needed for your elevation-was a must for me at sea level. The sled is so good out of the box that if you get it set up for you and your riding areas nothing more is really NEEDED.

I you really feel its lacking performance save your pennies for a turbo ;)

All good thoughts. I remember reading now that the stock pipe and can were performing just as well as any others out there now that I think about it. Definitely having the clutches reworked. As of now my D7 pulls harder than my pro did last year but only because of the carl's clutching and the gearing I did to it a few years ago. I ride at 2500 - 5000 mostly and that D7 woke up big time when I got the clutching right for it. Also did 19/42 on the gearing but haven't looked into the gearing much on the Pros either. I think before I go Turbo I'd go with a 900 or 905 kit

Tear out all of the foam and do the F-Bomb track trim, and turn up the oil. All of these upgrades are free.
My summer project is looking forward to the 2013 800 Pro RMK LE that's coming.:face-icon-small-ton

Turn up oiler

Clutching

Shocks

Foam removal

Rear bumper mod

Front bumper if you plan on doing anything more than running through an occasional willow branch

Relocate power valve drain

Tether

Gauge cage lift/vent

Your choice on the boards, airframes, madsigntist overlays, Burandt boards?, etc... on 11-12's

Underhood bag, underseatbag

All good stuff

I would not tear out the foam and replace with heat tape. I got a warranty denied from Polaris on my old Dragon 800 because I did that. They said I had an aftermarket pipe just because of the foam removal. Absolutely no proof to back it up either. Classic Polaris warranty horse$hit.

The airframe boards are the single best mod I've ever done. Nothing better than knowing you have grip at all times. I've had almost every other type of board in the past and nothing comes close (WRP, Fastlane No sno, BB's, etc). The plastic inserts they have for the stock boards are pretty good, but they still don't do what airframes do.

Second best mod I've done to the pro is replace the stock walker evans and put on Raptors all around. My body thanks me after every ride now with these shocks. Evol R's I had on at one point didn't hold a candle to the Raptors, except for the weight savings.

Well I haven't done it yet but I would sure like to have an E-Tec in a Pro but the Doo motors don't take well to the Polaris clutches and I don't want to go back to the TRA. Maybe the new 6 arm clutch! just dreaming now.:moon:

Install a hot pot, and not just because it's the only mod I did :face-icon-small-ton.
Got clutching more or less dialled in, and set the shocks for my fat azz and pull rope and go!! In the next few weeks I will get it out of storage and turn up the oiler, but all in all she's been a real peach. Went with the Assault so I could dial in the ride a lot easier than having all the shocks re-valved etc..

Best thing I did was put Exit X1's all around. I really dig the Burandt Bars I did but I wish they weren't called that. Seems so poser, but I really like the position better.

My Tied and PAR head/HPS can are nice mods but don't expect your sled to become a rocket just adding those. Better shifting from the Tied and more snap from the PAR head. Better Boards and an ArcticFX wrap did the rest.

HAHAHA.... Mountain Horse for sure. I've learned just about everything about my D7 from that guy and his posts on SW.

I turned up the oiler last year when my sled hit 200 miles and I hadn't even gone through 1/4 tank of oil yet. My dragon 700 drinks oil like crazy so I gave the pro oiler a couple turns and it now uses about the same ratio as my 4000 mile 700. I did tear all my foam out last year because my oil cap leaked all over everything under the hood while my sled was stuck upside down in a tree well. Also have relocated the dump for power valves.

*Bug - I also was hesitant to order the Burandt bars ONLY because they are Burandt bars hahaha definitely feel like a poser but I've heard nothing by good about them. The only thing I'm curious about is how much they're going to raise my handlebars because I have the standard rmk and the stock bars are pretty low (perfect for me being 5'8"). I may have to get a shorter block to go under the bars. Anyone else know about this situation? I know if you have the pro-taper set up they will lower 2" buy my standard has a totally different steering post set up so we'll see.

I'm going to add the F-Bomb track mod to the list this week since it's pretty damn cheap to do haha.

I think the next thing I'm going to have to drop some cash on will be a good shock package. I got some WE take offs to replace the Ryde FX last year which are 100% better than before but I need to get set up for my weight.

Good stuff guys, thanks for responding!

my favorite mod on my sled without a doubt has been the 174x3in track mod. yowsers it is awesome with that.

Best mod I have done:

OIL PUMP ADJUSTMENT- I adjusted it to where the head of the screw is flush with the back nut and I love the reliability it has given me with no ill effects other than the increase oil consumption. I have ran the same plugs for 1300 miles and still going strong. That and warming up my engine to full operating temps before blipping the throttle will aid in the longevity of your engine.

AIRFRAMES- Like others have said, this mod changed how good the sled felt, inspired so much more confidence with the ability to have adequate foot traction.

F-BOMB TRACK MOD- For me, this was a great add to my mods, especially for the price. If I rode in champagne powder all day long this mod would NOT do well, but I don't have that luxury and my snow seems to always have some sort of base and this made my sled hook up so much aggressive.

PAR Head- Cheap for the gain. It helped out substantially with low end throttle crispness and mid range grunt. It doesn't really give much on top end, but everyone that rode my sled noticed the great throttle response.

Clutching- IMO a good set of heavy heel weights with also gain in the good throttle response. Also throw in a decent aftermarket primary spring, such as a SLP blue/pink or Team lime green and enjoy the benefits of maintaining proper top rpm. I can't stand when my sled wouldn't pull full rpm. A couple hundred rpm makes a huge difference in power and track speed in the deep. Oh IMO don't waste your money on a TIED Sec. Clutch. I didn't see that much difference this last season to justify the $400 price tag.

The best mod ever is the air frames. Any other mod, whether it be clutching, bars, or anything, doesn't matter if you are slipping off your sled. If you aren't slipping then I would get a cushier seat because you are sitting a lot.

That's sad they can deny a warranty claim based on something so stupid. Just to show you how out of sink the dealers are. Before I removed the foam I asked a dealer here that if I removed the foam, would that effect the warranty, and he told me no. It would only effect the side panels.
Now after what happened to you, what's to stop them from denying a warranty claim if you had Air Frames on it?:face-icon-small-con

High pressure needle shocks all the way around, two inch bar riser. Goggle bag under the hood for the wet days in the Cascades. Set up is the best one yet...
