Best helmet goggle combo!?

Any thoughts on the best helmet and goggle combo? My set up was not great last season. It fogged up a lot, on powder days I'd get blasted in the face and eyes with snow. Awe poor me ! I know.

I've heard that 509 has good gear but thought I would check with my fellow snowbikers. I want to get a arai XD4 for dirt biking but not sure if it will be great for the snow.
Planning on lots of over the bar pow days this year so I'd like to be able to see where I'm going.

Cheers and let it snow

Hard to tell you what is best. Best thing to do is try them on to make sure they fit your face correctly. Don't buy without trying. I've got an hjc helmet with Scott goggles and they work great. Also quick straps work well for me. When I'm not moving I can easily take the goggles off my face and it keeps them from fogging. I also heard 509 are nice but spendy.

I use a HJC helmet also with the breath deflector, and the Ski Doo electric goggle, they have 2 versions, one plug in and one with battery, both work great!

goggle contact=no fog

fogging is a direct relation to how your goggles fit on your face. If the face foam is not tight against your face you will fog regardless of how much you spend on helmet and goggles. I use an arai vx pro 3 with the bell moto 9 breath box and 509 goggles and it is a perfect seal with virtually no fogging. I also have used the Bell Moto 9 with great results. This year I am going to use a TLD SE3 with the 509 breath box and the new 509 x5 goggles.

Fogging goggles is a bigger problem with snowbikes than sleds. Snow on exposed enginges, radiators and exhaust creates steam, especially when you stop. The biggest problem was in very cold conditions. I've tested the electrically heated Ski-doo goggles. I wish I could tell you that they are good but I have'nt tested them enough to tell you that they are a good buy.

the very best helmets are full faced downhill Mt bike helmets. !/2 THE WEIGHT and slimmer profile. They look just like a MX helmet and goggles fit seamlessly. Been using on sleds for decade. Not DOT approved, never seen a car on the mt !, I actually use these on the KTM single tract as well.

To each their own

Downhill mountain bike helmets are very light and comfortable. But they do not offer the protection that the motorports helmets do. During testing, they are just as safe in a dismount or impact with the ground, as these are common "crashes" in the downhill world. What they are terrible at is when impacted by a machine such as a bike slamming you in the head or a sled coming down on top of you. Do not let yourself think that you are getting the same protection with any downhill helmet. But its your head, not mine so to each their own.

You just gotta go to a shop and spend an hour or two trying stuff on. Get the helmet, than get the goggles that fit best with your new helmet and your face.

For me, I went with a Troy Lee Designs Air helmet and an Oakley A Frame goggle. I only dealt with fog in the mornings while waiting for my group to get their sh!t together. The rest of the season was fog free.

OP

To the original OP, yes the previous comments on fit is good advise. A couple of options for you to look into.....

Cheap..under $150
1. Bell SX-1

2. Fly three.4

3. HJC CLX-5 or 6

$150-300

1. FLY F2 carbon (this is a very popular seller)

2. 509 Evolution (this is a DOT only helmet)

3. FOX V2

4. FXR Mountain Air

$300+

1. BELL Moto 9

2. Fox V4

3. Arai VXPro 3

4. TLD SE3

5. 509 Carbon

6. FXR X-1 Race

there are plenty of others out there, but these have proven to be sure winners that are worth mention.

Sweet, thanks for the advice everyone.
I might look at the bell, I can get a deal and it is a brand I trust. Does everyone use ski/snowboard goggles, motocross or snowmobile. What's the difference!?

Anyone used a bell for snow biking/snowmobiling?

Cheers

dual pane

you want to use a dual pane goggle, which is what most ski/snowboard and snowmobile goggles are. MX goggles are a single pane lens and will typically fog sooner. Some good options for goggles are obviously 509, Oakely, Dragon, Klim, Scott, Smith there are a ton of goggle options out there and everyone has there own preference. Another thing to think about when purchasing goggles is lens tint. This again is personal preference but will vary with the conditions you typically ride in. If you ride in overcast dreary days, then yellow, orange etc will intensify the light and help you see better, but will not be dark enough on bright sunny days.

i use electric eg2 goggles for years now largest lenses available provide great vision , the breath deflector is key to me it really cuts down on inhaling snow too. used the klim f4 for the last couple seasons but going to suomy now to get lighter weight so i don't whip lash my neck on the big hits. using the exhaust helps a lot with defogging just make sure you don't go overboard and melt anything

I have had fogging problems for 35 some years. Tried dozes of helmets and so many goggles I can't remember the number, spent several thousand dollars. I've also modified goggles and helmets trying to get something that wouldn't fog. Last season for the first time I went almost 100% fog free! My problem turned out to be keeping my head cool. I imported an Airoh "Aviator" helmet. It has the most venting of any helmet I have ever seen! I rode all season with a $40 dollar pair of ski goggles. The helmet is not DOT approved so not sure about finding it in the US.

Dave Russell KTM sells them in Spokane 509-926-6798. Not only vented well but mine weighs 950 grams. Mines the Airoh Aviator. Love it.

.......so I take it Mike that you're not installing the vent plugs which is what I was going to do...love the airflow for dirt biking but I think it could get chilly with them out...I'll have to see how it goes. Good info.

Any good mx helmet with a breath deflector installed. The breath deflector is key. Okaly splice goggles with yellow hi viz lenses. Pay atention to were and how you set your helmet when you take it off. You can go all day without fogging.
