Best fix for '07 M8 Trenching????

Throttle control! I ride with 1 guy who can trench up the asphalt. It never gets better and it does not matter what he rides. Carry some momentum if it looks nasty, and don't just pin-it once she is going down. Feather the throttle some. If you are moving at 5mph and your track is moving at 35mph you are just removing the source of traction from under your sled. The snow conditions determine the forgiveness of the thumb, and different tracks may help some. It is better to help someone who has just stopped then dug a huge hole. Just my opinion.

where can i find out more info about the Holz revalving? i went to the Holz racing website and didn't find much. i'm gonna try what you said before i have to spend a bunch of money, but it seems like i should just buy an '09.

i agree that the 09 M8 is nearly twice the sled that the 07 is, but it also will cost twice as much. Call Holz and talk to Matt about the revalve.

I was riding with Longtrack156, he has a M7 162 A20 in the normal position

My 07 M8 153 camo left twice the trench, it was bad I'd blow out all the snow and made it way hard to follow me. I chalked it up to being 250+ ready to ride, and WFO everywhere I go.

but it'll cost you in other ways, its a trade off. I like to jump and free ride so the 153 is good for me, don't hafta worry so much about bent rails if I land on the tail a bit hard.

oh boy is there a ton of info on this page. Some TOTAL the opposite of the other.

The 07 is probably one of the worst skids for trenching in Cat for a long time. Sorry!

You've got a number of issues:

1. The front skid shock is too short - so you get excessive ski pressure and its hard to sidehill because of this - it also doesn't transfer enough either partially because of this. Drill out the other mounting hole in the tunnel and move the skid DOWN in the front.

2. keep the limiters all the way loose. and the front skid shock all the way loose.

3. Set the rear suspenion so that it sags about 3.5" with you sitting on it - measure at the rear skid bolt.

4. BIGGEST issue with this skid - the rear shock valving is WAY too stiff. Get it revalved by Holz. While you are at it, get the fron skid shock revalved and add Holz's multi-spring stack instead of the stock spring.

5. keep the back skid bolt in the upper mounting hole.

This entire cost will be less than $175 - you skid should ROCK with this setup, but you won't be saving any weight. You could also just buy the entire 09 skid, though that will cost a lot more.

Stock camo is suspect too. The track is not my fav.

I have had some of the same issues but this is about the most complete post I have seen on it. Ill have to try some of them. As far as the track, I agree that is just a band aid. Has anyone tried moving the skid down in the front with the 09 float conversion or do you even need to?

me and my brother both have 06 m7 with challengers mine is a 153, his is a 162. we both weigh in around 240lbs without gear, and there are some differences in clutching and gearing between our sleds but as for comparison results my 153 will kill his 162 in a drag race and doin tight cookies and such. climbing in the deep snow we pull about the same track speed but he can pull away from me on the hill and get the highmark first but mine will eventually get just as high it just takes a bit longer. i think thats just from the 162 stayin a bit higher up out of the snow. anywho personal preference i will never go longer than 153, much better all around like mentioned above.

i'd just like to thank everyone for there input/info!!!! it all was a great help!! i ended up buying an '09 M8 162 sno pro from Nelson/(Extreme) motorsports. i pick it up on friday and will probably ride this weekend. i will repost how it is after i ride it a few times. especially after some fresh, deep stuff like i rode a few weeks ago. then we will see if i just suck or what! haha thanks again everyone!!!
