Best bet for the first week of April in northern ID?

Here is a couple pics from last April. The fog was so thick the first half of the day...we could not see 100 yards. We never found any powder. Just a few inches of loose stuff on top of rock hard snow. Going to try and go out again in December. Not sure if it will be Priest again or Trestle or Roman. I guess it will depend on the snow and recommendations. That was my first ride outside of Alaska.

I will be looking into both areas among others. I will probably check with Sundance Lodge as it gets closer considering I don't know the area at all. I'm not even against driving into Montana...if that what it takes to find some great snow.

Thanks Catgirl, this thread started last march I think and I was headed out in April...so I joined in. I didn't post pics until I came across them this fall. I'm now looking at heading out a couple times in December and just hoping for snow and willing to drive... Although I noticed Northern Idaho has a winter storm warning this weekend...so that's great news.

Tony at Sundance Mt. Lodge

Anyone can ride from my parking lot at the lodge it is a great place to start from even if it is just for the day. I have maps and can help with backcountry riding spots to find. look for weather condition at Priest Lake for more info or call me Tony 425-417-5252

Well...made it out to Priest Lake. The snow was good but not good enough to get off the fire roads. We did make it up to the Sundance Mountain Lookout tower. At one point, the snow was deep enough on the fire roads to come up over the cowling on the machines and we both were stuck at least once. I'll be heading back out in a week or so...

Dang! That looks pretty good. The picture looks like you could go off trail?!?

I might be heading up that way this weekend. I have a buddy that has a super double secret spot that has 5x the snow than any where in the whole area.....or something like that! :face-icon-small-hap

There was some off trail riding to be had. That picture was taken as it started to open up a bit. The more open it was, the more wind blown it became. So it was not the best. We were on the the wrong ridge and trying to get to the correct ridge just to find out the trail to the bowls area was uncrossable because of lack of snow. So we didn't spend any time up there. I will be heading back up in a week or so and might go further north up the lake.

Well Tony, we are going up on Friday. I have looked over that trails map and I can't find Ruthann anywhere but we will just follow the tracks and do some exploring. Thanks for all the info.
