best all around mountain track?

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
I have been out of the game for 3 years and things have moved very fast. I jut picked up a 2006 summit-X. It has a 151 by 16 by 2 1/4 track now. There are many new tracked I have not seen perform yet . Which is the best for overall moutain riding. deep fluff, climbing and playing around. Thnaks

its either the challenger extreme 2.5 or the power claw are the main two that are the best.

The track you have is probably the best all around track you can get...Sure, you can get longer paddles, longer track, but all around a 151" is a good length and you wont find many tracks that do well in all snow conditions like a Challenger.

yeah, the 06 doo tracks are DARN good stock tracks, your looking at some $$ if you want to go to an extreme in 2.5"

i would say that you dont need to mess with it, you have a great all around, and its not worth the $$ for the gains unless you rip all your lugs off!

I have been trying to figure out the same thing for my 07 XRS. I am going to change the lite for something better but trying to decide is difficult.

Here are my choices and dilemma's

06 track 151 x 2.3 x 16 weight=61# price=$675 bolt right with no issues

challenger 150 x 2.5 x 15 weight=56# price=$635 + $250 for drivers=$885 bolt right in with no issues

challenger 153 x 2.25 x 15 weight=50# price=$350+drivers $250 and wheel kit to fit $150-$200=$750-$800

Weight is the biggest difference with the 153 being 11# less than the 06 track and the 150 being 5# less, both a big difference when spinning.

the 153 seems like the best choice but for some reason doesn't appeal to me for some reason, the weight is appealing but unsure if the performance is comparable to the others.

any other input will be appreciated.

The power claw hands down is the best out today the Challenger is an OK track the 2.5 extreme is good but will slow you down. I am a Cat guy and am seeing all brands installing the power claw and not just one time. Last year Simmons were skeptical and ended it loving it and recommending it to all customers.

just leave it! The track thats on that sled is a GREAT all round track. Performs in all conditions very well.... Don't waste your money, there are other places that are better to invest in. Like clutching and such...

Agreed!! Keep what you have until you can ride others and see if it's worth it to you to spend the $$.

I loved the PC on my M last season so I put one on my dragon My XP track seemed to work good or the sled was light enough that I didnt notice so Im keeping the doo track for now!!

Power Claw is the Best hands down. Unless you have one and have used it in all conditions, you can't argue.

The only thing is really didnt like about the power claw is how fast it is coming down. Its a little like riding a crazy carpet. I really liked the 16 wide maverick track i had on my 900 KC. Hooked well in hard, floated well in the soft and breaked ok on the steep decents.

The PC gos down better than a 2.25 challenger. you just don't want to lock it up, the bigger paddles hold snow, so if you keep it turning it works well.
