Best advice your dad ever gave you?

Fouled plug needs at least a few non-political threads - in honor of Fathers Day this Sunday, what was some advice (good or bad) your father gave that has stuck with you?

A few of my favorites:

"If it has tits or tires it will give you trouble."

"Two to the chest, stunned at best. One to the head, zombie dead."

"If you loan someone $20 and you never see him again, it was probably a good deal."

I just wish that my Dad was around and actually gave a chit when I was a teen. He has changed now, but I am 35 so it's a day late and a dollar short.

Those of you who had great relationships with your Dad, count your blessings.

X2 im 16, and never met my dad and have a dick head for a step dad.

protect your name, you have to live with that the rest of your life.

Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you've got.

You are what people percieve you to be.

If you die with the same number of holes that you were born with, you had a good life. (No peircings, operations, gun shot wounds etc.)

Buy what appreciates.....rent what depreciates.

It's never too late for a relationship with your Dad. My Dad worked alot out of town. Never spent much time with me or my 5 brothers. Now I'm 48. he's 78 and he loves spending time with me. You couldn't get him to say "I love you" when we were young. Now he's this sensitive hugger who I like spending time with. Forgive your Dad for not being there. He must have had some influence in your life. You're here, you're pretty hilarious, your posts are a gas and although I've never met you, I think I have you pegged as a pretty nice guy. Times change and people change.

Sh$t in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up faster!I was around 12 and told him I wish I had a dirtbike!!!!

It doesn't matter if your job is to sweep the floor...when the boss comes around and asks who swepped the floor, be proud, stand up and say 'i did'

work hard play hard

Some of my favorite quotes from my pops...

"Never get in a workin mans way"

"If a job is worth doing, its worth doing it right"

"See the end from the beginning before you start"

If you're not in bed by midnight, go home!

He was/is a jack *** and bailed on the family and that is the BEST gift I have been given. I have turned it into a positive and have chosen to be a waaaaaay different father to my daughters than he was to me.

Happy Fathers Day to those choosing to be a father. To those sperm donors out there, thanks for nothing.

WOW, I heard that one plenty of times.

"Anything worth having is worth working for."

Granddads was "Never trust a 3 legged mule not to kick."

I was lucky enough to have a great relationship with both, Dad & I don't see each other as often now that I moved west and he retired. But every Sunday 1 of us is calling the other to BS for awhile. Though I'd love to get him out here for hunting season or even for a mid-winter trail ride, I know I'll never get it done unless I go get him..........

I'd like to think I turned out to be a person that has made him proud over the years, though he does have a little trouble understanding my attitude towards Washington from time to time ..........

"If you can't pay cash, you can't afford it."
My Dad was killed in a work accident when I was 19. Seeing now what he acomplished in his 40 short years really makes me realize hard work pays off. Have to mix in some fun too. Life is short and there is no guarantee that you will be around to enjoy yourself later.
It's been awhile now, and time does help. When Fathers day rolls around it makes me realize how much I miss having the old man around.

I find it amazing how much my dad has learned over the years. About the time I turned 13 he became a complete idiot. Stayed that way for quite a few years too. I'd say around the time I turned 26 he just snapped out of it. lol. Now I don't make any major decisions without consulting my dad. Weird. Anyway:

"Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see."

and "If a prospective employer promises you the earth, the moon and the stars, get in writing before you move across the country for it."

To think of all the mistakes I could have avoided if I wasn't some snot nosed know-it-all teenager.

Think I'll go fishin' this weekend with him.

He said enjoy your youth as you get older you will have many responsibilities. He was right and here is a :beer; for dad for making my youth a pleasant experience :D He also told me of all the stuff he did wrong in life in hopes i wouldn't make the same mistakes. Im still working on some of those

He taught me that raising happy kids pays a greater reward than anything this life offers. He is /was dead on with that!

One day I was about 19, I was chasin a skirt and my dad pulled me aside knowing she was the trampy type (not a girl youd take home to meet the parents, more of a hotel room girl)

anyway hes says
"One day a chicken decided to cross the road, as it was about half way across a car came by and ran over its tail feathers, the chichen got scared and ran the rest of the way across the road. there is when it realized it was missing a little flesh. so the chicken goes back onto the road to pick up the piece when another car came and ran over its head and killed it.

the morel is: dont lose your heard over a tiny piece of a$$.

"You will get out of life what you put into it"

So far so good, I wouldn't trade with anyone :D

The bit(h I do have is when he said "Dont sell that car" I wish he would have took me behind the barn & smashed my nutts between two bricks

That way I would have forgot about all the chickies & still have my 1970 440 sixpack Cuda:o
