What year is the best truck out of 1999 2000 2001 2002 for a 7.3 F250?
I am kickin around about looking for one and am wondering what year would be the best to look for. Any info would be great.

They are all great....find one with low miles you cant go wrong.. I had a 96 PSD and a 01 PSD the transmisions where the week link. Stay away from the 6.0 big POS... Good luck.

the designs hardly changed ( I think ford just updated the oil pumo design in the newer 7.3's) I'd go 02 if you could find one. But dont get mt wrong all the 7.3's are great.

All 1999-2002 7.3 where good!

I do love my 6.0!!! No matter what anyone thinks about them.....JMHO

didnt ford make the 7.3 in 2003 also? I was told they made a 03 7.3 with a torqueshift transmision, If they did that would have to be the best.

some where in 01 they changed the the rods, the old ones are better for big hp but the powder rods are fine to 400 hp i think. so it does not matter to most.

99 and 00 had problems with the door locks.

Sorry , no Torqueshift trans behind a 7.3L. Those came out when the 6.0l did......:face-icon-small-hap

If you get a automatic, make sure you double up your tranny cooler (if it hasn't been done yet)!!! Get another stock type trans cooler (you can buy them from Ford or a Junk Yard)and run it above the other one. Otherwise they can get hot on long twisty roads on hot days..... just a little heads up for ya.:face-icon-small-coo This is for the 7.3L Auto's!

Thanks for the input! I AM going to stear clear of the 6.0. And sounds like I am just going to keep an eye out for a low mile clean lookin 01 or 02 7.3L, I don't think I could go wrong.

The 4R100 arent great behind the 7.3's, and the six speeds... With the shifter throw, and the 2 foot throw of the clutch, makes you really feel like a truck. A couple years they had a dana 50 in the front end, and a couple years they had weaker rods etc. I dont know the specific years, but just something to keep an eye on. Chances of finding an older low k superduty is slim, to none. But regardless, glow plugs/relays, injectors, cam sensors, turbo, are all fairly common issues with the 7.3. If you do the right work to a 6.0 truck, chances are it will treat you fairly well. Theres a ton of GOOD info out there for them from guys that actually know them well.

find one that is built prior to November 2000. These have the good rods, and you can make way more power with them. The newer motors use PMR's, and they will fail if you run a hot chip. Get a TS performance chip, and you will be happy.

2002+ has Dana 60.

I've got an 02 and have had great luck with it. I replaced the stock trans cooler with one from a 6.0. The size difference is HUGE.

A few minor mods have turned the truck into an incredibly realiable workhorse.

That works too. I "NEAVER" had a problem with trans temp in my 6.0. Works great!!!

The transmission and cooler is the "only" good thing about my POS 2005 6.0
I pull 16k pounds trans temp does not go over 185deg on the avarage. I have a friend that will like to hear about that cooler swap.....
