Bent foot rail (with pic)

Well, while I was gone a buddy thought it would be easy to move my sled with a fork lift and this is what happened. I have been told to just do Better Board, but how is it going to fix the outside rail that is bent.. Thanks in advance..

P.S Its worse than it looks in the picture.

Those rails are flimsly like that. Take the outer rail off the running board and ram aluminum rod down it (you'll need to do alittle griding to make a flat edge on the rod), rivet it back on and ride. Eventually if you hit a hard landing you will tweak the factory boards. I installed the rod and the factory stiffening kit. When i was ready to sell the sled i put some wood blocks under the rail edges and straighted the boards out again and the avg. Joe wouldn't have been able to tell they sagged.

You're sure it is from a forklift, it looks bent down?

Anyways, mine was bent exactly like that but on the left side but was from doing donuts all the time.

You can remove the bolt that holds the running board to the tube that goes from the running board and attaches to the tunnel (where your feet go). Once that is removed, use a floor jack and lift up where it is bent enough to slightly lift the board. Put some weight in the area where you removed that bolt and it should turn out good. May take a few times as you will lower the jack and find it not straightened good enough.

It worked good for me, but there are probably more than one way to do it.

Show us how it looks when its fixed up.

Just read the above post, that is a good idea about the rod inside the outer running board piece.

My boards were bent down as well, although not quite that much. I simply straightened them out using the block method mentioned above, and a few taps from a sledge to get it just right. After I got them straight, I installed Better Boards, and it's a hundred times stronger feeling now.

save a buck

remove rivets, pry off rail, 1/2" aluminum with a channel ground into it, pound it in, rivet it up. cost 20 bucks.
