belt problem

just put a new belt on my sled and in 2 rides it fried it. the primary was so hot you coulnt even think about touching it. any ideas as to why this is happening?

Welcome to the wonderful world of clutching! I was where you're at right now about 2 weeks ago after I fried 2 belts in one ride and my primary was nuclear hot. I have been doing a lot of questioning, searching, and reading on this forum and others. Another very helpful forum has been dootalk.com From what I've learned, you're gonna need to clean your clutches, seriously think about getting a Dynamo Joe clutch kit soon, make sure your belts are the right size (width-wise - >1.45 inches) and make sure your clutches are aligned.

Here are some good sites for you:

Heres my original post that started off exactly like this thread is starting. Some good info in here.

Hey thanks. and well i got 2 problems from the sound. the powder was deep and i have holes in my side pannel and there was a little snow in there. guess the screen i got isnt doing the job. and when i looked at it, there was bad rub marks on the engine side of the primary and the opposite side didnt have a mark. so thats telling me i need to shim my secondary out a tad

Found my clutches were slightly out of alignment, but the big deal i over looked was the rubber deal that keeps the motor from over torqing was shot. So everytime i hammered on it, the motor torqued a lot and pushed it way out of alignment

for those of us that are still learning, what exactly is this "rubber deal" that you're talking about? Can anybody enlighten me?
