Belt Life..

I know I know, I hate to being it up but honestly I'm annoyed, just wondering if anyone is having the same problems. I have a track and driver issue that maybe part of the problem......but 300 miles is not acceptable these days. We have had amazing conditions in Revy so the sled and belt have been working hard. I was just hoping the new sheave angles, belt, geared down from factory 3", would help out a bit, even if I was able to get 500 miles I could live with that...

I have to say anyone who rode this sled was ready to buy one, they are flat out amazing all around, but a new $300 belt every 300 miles, which means 6 a season......this has 3 of my friends shying away now. What is everyone else seeing?

I'm at 900 miles now with original belt. 700 of those is with a boondocker sidekick turbo. I did also install a mtntk blow hole. Couldn't be happier. 163x3" I'm usually not easy on belts either, most other mountain sleds I've owned without turbos where aroun 4-5 hundred miles per belt if you where lucky.

I think I blew one in the first 200 miles, but it was a stupid deep day and I got greedy. Rode it like a madman without any breaks to cool it off. I've got a total of 750 miles and no more belt issues since.

Over 600 miles 12psi tss turbo, factory belt drive with camo x3 track. Still on first factory belt. Kootenay tree riding and a few trips to revy and golden.

300 bucks for a belt? My dealer charges 200,
I just changed my orginal belt, and its still good after 700 miles, im gonna wear the second belt so i can set sheave clearance that will fit a used belt.

This is half of my belt pile after 1800 miles...

looks like you are blowing a belt every 100-150 miles? I think I would have someone take a look at your clutches...

Clutches have had failed rollers twice and jackshaft snapped as well so that probably took out a few. As far as belt brand I've tried A couple. Cat, Polaris OEM, and Dayco. Dayco seem to be the most reasonable so far but I'll also try gates. This is in very deep snow and aggressive riding.

Is the sled vented?

This is a trend that is increasing at an alarming rate between all of the manufacturers. We have sleds building more horsepower, more load due to track designs, but we have less airflow under the hood due to compact engine compartments, and most consumers want some kind of exotic wrap to customize their sled.
Cosmetically, venting isn't pretty, and you likely won't see it from factory as they are committed to reduce engine noise levels. But it works, and more you have, the better. MNTEK's "blow hole" or something similar is a must with stock panels without venting if you want to have the fancy wrap without venting. Maybe not the answer you wanted, but it will pay for itself in belt savings...

Put a blowhole on my Pro when it was going through belts every 200 miles, it did nothing... Proper alignment, clutching and gearing was the answer.

With stock clutching I took out one stock belt and one gates carbon mabe 40 miles each belt .with my mds weights now. I have 500 miles on two belts. I switch them around every other weekend. So about 250 a belt so far. With stock I would get black slip marks so that's way they were pulling cords.. on side not a KTM rad fan in the little window compartment works very good. Some friends have them on a axys and doo..

I get lots of hard miles out of my belts in deep wet snow. What weights are you using? Stock helix? Aftermarket or custom grind helix? What springs in primary and secondary? Have you checked that everything is clean, moves free, balanced? Do you use cleaning chemicals on the faces of the clutches? Alignment? How are you setting your deflection with the different brand belts? Are you fully shifting out? Black marks on clutches? How is your track tension? Everything else mechanically fine? Have you checked your motor mounts? Is anything on the chaise bent? How are you cleaning your belts when new or are you? I scrub mine down in the kitchen sink when the wife isn't looking with hot soapy water and a scotchbrite pad. I take a digital laser temp gauge out with me at times and properly set up mine are staying cool without any added vents, fans or blown belts. Im hoping its something simple. "Most" people on here are very helpful but we need more info to help you get it sorted out and back to blowin snow rather than belts;)

Can you say venting??? LOL
Someone said that's too much......I say whatever, it keeps things cooler in the engine compartment.

What vents are those? They actually don't look bad! I've been thinking I should do some venting on my sled.

Not sure what you guys are doing to your sleds... But, I have 650 miles beating the piss out of my original belt and it's still holding up. I did notice a loss of performance around 500 miles, adjusted deflection for about the 3rd time and brought my rpm back up. I can tell it's not 100% but I only have 1 more trip planned and know it'll last fine for the remainder of the season. I have probably 25 stucks where I held the sled wide open beyond 15 seconds, and the majority of my riding is tight technical tree riding where I'm on and off the throttle and brake constantly. I don't do long pulls, ever, but if you're blowing up belts every couple hundred miles something's gotta be up. This is about as long of pulls as I get, maybe not enough to create heat? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sdxEVapwl5I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
