Belt Drive - replacement cost$$??

It's supposed to be the same belt type that the bikes use but I think if it's easy to change toss one in your pack like the genII/edge water pump belts

From what I understand, it can be changed pretty quickly. All you do is pull the upper pulley bolt and it all slides on/off. My plan is to not carry an extra on the sled, but to keep a spare in the trailer so a trip doesn't get ruined.

That would be awesome, I would be carring one on the sled or in pack if that's all it takes to change it

I know for a fact that Burandt was destroying them regularly. I know of two locations where he did it.
Maybe it was just testing, but it was very late in the year on one.
He also runs an Assault on his turbo rigs, to have the chaincase.
I think it is going to depend entirely on how you treat the sled. Race sleds have slippers in them, so you can land on the gas wide open, regular sleds do not. Land 150 horsepower wide open on some traction, and something has got to take that load.
I tend to be easy on my sleds as far as knowing what hurts them, but I will be buying a spare.

How much does his sled put out in HP / torque?

All of that is on the posted Micro Fiche (other than Pitch), 68 T, 36 mm width and 11 mm Pitch. Gates's 11 mm is a proprietary pitch reserved for those willing to purchase a XXX quantity production run of belts.

Failure-mode on these belts is not "snapping" but rather stripping off some of the cogs with the top gear (less gear to belt contact area)... even with some stripped off teeth on the belt.. it will drive and brake for the most part... not ideal... but enough to get the job done
