From what I understand, it can be changed pretty quickly. All you do is pull the upper pulley bolt and it all slides on/off. My plan is to not carry an extra on the sled, but to keep a spare in the trailer so a trip doesn't get ruined.

if it snaps on a steep hill,will it still have brakes?
I know for a fact that Burandt was destroying them regularly. I know of two locations where he did it.
Maybe it was just testing, but it was very late in the year on one.
He also runs an Assault on his turbo rigs, to have the chaincase.
I think it is going to depend entirely on how you treat the sled. Race sleds have slippers in them, so you can land on the gas wide open, regular sleds do not. Land 150 horsepower wide open on some traction, and something has got to take that load.
I tend to be easy on my sleds as far as knowing what hurts them, but I will be buying a spare.
