Belt Drive Options/Discussion

I figured as much, I planned to keep stock gearing. I think all the kits provide stock gearing except for Kurt's Gear down kit.

There is only one proven solution to the QD belt issue and I'm happy to announce that I am the one that discovered it: Ride like a granny and your belt issues will be non-existent.

I managed to blow a QD belt on my 14' in about 12 miles(sled was brand new, no break in). But I was beating on it hard while testing my turbo. After that, I installed a FnI belt deflector. Hope it holds up better now. Only have about 40 miles on the sled at the moment though due to low snow and other things.

Wow. What would your final gear ratio be? That would REALLY low I would think.

PV.

Definitely would NOT do both. LOL

The 7t drivers gear it down from 2.09 to 2.27, I believe.

Kurt's Gear Down takes it from 2.09 down to 2.41.

Ok, that makes more sense. Didn't think you'd want to go that low. Personally, I think 2.41 is getting pretty low but I know some have been really happy with it.

I was very happy with it and I'm 5'8" and 145lbs. I put on about 35 miles. 20 on logging road and 15 in 4 feet of snorkel deep fresh. I liked it A LOT!!

From us with only a lousy 4-5K ft mountains at our disposal: please mention altitude when giving advise/comments on gearing and clutching.

"Please, pretty please with sugar on top" :face-icon-small-win

I talked to Tom Kobza today. Very willing to discuss his fix for the belt issues. He offers a kit for the chain case and QDS model Pro's (as well as other brands). He also offers a tensioner for the stock QDS setup. I think he said it was $350. Intended to keep the belt from slopping out.

I'm leaning toward a TKI belt drive.

I would have geared my 13 with 3" down last year if I could have got gearing. My belt was down 1 1/4" in the drive clutch. You aren't going to get all of it in the mountains but that is too much.

How much clutch work did you do after the 3" paddles?

Curtis told me on Saturday that 7t drivers and his gear down kit make final gearing about 2.53.

For someone who spends all day in the trees boondocking, especially a large person, it might not be too bad.

So I hereby retract my above statement that I definitely wouldn't do it...I'd like to try it before I form an opinion.
