Beginning of the end of mountain riding

This has been coming since the 2005 motor vehicle lawsuit..this is new as the enviro nazis have been pissed because snowmobiles were exempted on motor vehicle use in land controlled by the forest circus ... essentially if they win your snowmobile use will be limited to where other motor vehicle can go... so if you are a road rider all is good... but if you like to play on the steep and deep... this will be the end... if the snowmobile motor vehicle rule goes into effect I have a mountain sled for sale.

If you disagree with the proposed lawsuit that would limit snowmobiles to roads and you don't belong to SAWS and/or Blue Ribbon Coalition or some other group that fights this type of crap... you really should not WHINE (or post here) as you have been too lazy to protect our sport.

I can't stand skiers arguments.. and i am a snowhill slider myself..
sleds track out an area in an hour that takes skiers a week.. come on! srsly! only about 2 skiers even make it to a LOT of these areas once a month.

5 skiers frequent an area 15 miles in about 4 times a yr that 500 snowmobilers frequent every week..

there will be a lot of rogue sledders.. just sayin..

You left out an important part of this problem.

Tim,
Are the dems are trying to stop it? Don’t kid yourself. The dems are right in step with the greenies. If you vote for a dem you're voting for greenies in congressional leadership, chairs, judicial appointments, supreme court! If there are greenie republicans that are proposing wilderness, they are going against their own party, and is the exception. In Utah we weed these RINOS out in the primaries. Please name a dem that is against new wilderness.

weetee

Just so you know, all the new wilderness in idaho was proposed by republicans. So it truly doesn't matter which politcal party you belong to, both are trying to get more wilderness.

tim

The republicans are doing that now, they sure weren't 20,30 years ago.

Our club gives money to the Blue Ribbon every year. Would really suck to lose my trip or two out west to the steep and deep.

I think after sleeping on it last night ...

I'm gonna get out while the gettins' good.

Anybody wanna buy a badass trailer, M8 or KTM dirt bike? lol.

when they outlaw boondocking only outlaws will boondock;) if you think all democrats are tree huggers you are obviously living in your own little paranoid world, maybe quit listening to rush everyday???
You miss the point. It doesn't matter if your a democrat and not a tree hugger. When you vote for a dem you are sending people who will pass the tree hugger agenda, not help keep your riding areas open. What they can't get through congress, they will issue through executive order, and that has already started. Do your research, you don't have to listen to Rush to look up legislation involving land closures. Look up who argues for open access, and against more wilderness. It's not democrats. My access rights are threatened by people who ride, but believe it's ok to vote democrats in and allow people like Salazaar to control the agenda.

For you to say "The Republicans are doing that now" is not true. 99.% of republicans do not want wilderness expanded, and vote against it. I don't think the same can be said about the democrats.

It used to be several decades ago virtually none of them would be on the wilderness bandwagon, but there have been enough of them jumping on that bandwagon in recent years to cause concern. Generally speaking, no, republicans don't support wilderness designations, but there are enough of them who have realized that at the right time and place they can score a lot of political points with it.

Polarization

while the recreation groups argue over political agendas and who did what, the USFS and large private landowners daily monthly relentlessly install gates, kelly hump old roads, print new travel plan maps with trails missing, remove unsafe bridges, pave and plan camp sites, protect roads from wet travel, and continue to develope new strategy to manage our lands at less cost, meaning remove people and eliminate risk.

You have to study the culture of the US Dept of Ag and its evolution to get an idea of why you and your sled are not included in theirs plans. USFS personal are not elected, nor appointed by either political party. Your riding land is part of typical turf wars over budget and money keeping a job and looking good to superiors looking to retirement future and looking out for their own kind. Senators and presidents come and go, politicians make noise and squabble, lawsuits mean job security for USFS minnions. 25 years down at the USFS is a nice tidy short career with good retirement back to one of their favorite idyllic outposts where they studied voles. Please don't upset this natural course of events by showing up at their outpost at an inconvienent time of the year.

That is all true, but it is not the entire picture. The USFS takes direction from the Presidents cabinet and congress. They have to follow the law just like everyone else. Politicians appoint judges that ultimately decide land use battles. Vote wisely!

I'd move to Canada if this ever happened
