Beer can Stove!

That is pretty cool!!!

Who would have thought that a discard old pop can could be so useful.....

wow great idea. gonna try this out this week and see what the burn time is on what amount of fuel. could be a lifesaver. wonder how toxic the fumes are?

That is a great idea! I'm going to make one and put it on the sled, and just bring a can of soup or chilly...... Hot lunch in 5 minutes, just put it on the shovel blade for the base.

Yes pretty cool.

I've used one of these for a couple of years now and the best fuel is Iso-heet in the red bottle. Very little fumes if any. Next would be rubbing alcohol. Burn time is fairly good especially in cold temps.

A can of sterno (alcohol jelly) that caterers use under chafing dish works great as well - comes in its own container so you don't have to worry about breaking a bottle or spilling the alcohol. The cans of sterno are likely not quite as hot as the alcohol stove but it makes great fire starter in the jellied form.

Usually carry a marine distress flare in the kit bag as well - great for signalling or as an emergency fire starter.

thats sweet!!

Another cool trick more for lasting heat than cooking,is a coffee can with a roll of toilet paper inside, pour a bottle of alcohol on it and you have a 8+-hour wick that creates heat and is still safe to breathe in confined spaces.

Called "cottle" stoves.

Best when made from the aluminum beer bottles that Budweiser uses.

I have a guy here in our town that makes them for anyone who wants them.

I thought about it, saved up a few alum bud bottles, but then bought a http://www.jetboil.com/ instead. Glad I did.

Don't have to pour fluid, clean anything out, worry about spilling or getting burned.
Don't have to worry about pouring leftover or unburned fuel back into container...or burning up/wasting what I don't use.

I can boil 16oz of water in a minute, 45. That's FAST.

I can be eating Top Ramen or a Mountain House in 2 mins.

Made one last night. Worked great. Used iso-heet for fuel. I plan on carrying one in my patrol sled along with the soup can I already carry.

We used that for hunting back in the 80s. Worked very well. Too bad most things are made of plastic now.
