Beaver Mountain

This is for anyone that knows Beaver mtn and is willing to have another rider or two to tag along. I live in Cedar City and usually ride on Cedar mountain locally. I also have a cabin in Fairview and like the riding there better but it is 3 hours away. I have heard that Beaver Mtn has some sweet areas to ride. I just don't know the mountain and I need some one to let me know where to access some spots or let me ride along some day.

BTW this is for the Beaver moutains east of Beaver, UT. Not the Logan ski area!

Thanks!

If you are interested in Kolob or Cedar Mt. (If there is access) I could use a partner tomorrow. I would like to explore beaver myself sometime, but a bit of a drive from Hurricane for little snow.

Lounatic
I will be riding up by Brian Head tommorow morning early. I plan on parking up by the resort at about 8:30. Come and ride with us if you want. I can only take a short ride and I don't know what conditions will be like.

I have been up right hand canyon road 2 times this year and just parked there by Milts. As far as I know the canyon is still closed. Parking there will likely be hard later in the day. If you don't go Brian Head let me know when you want to ride.

:D

There is some fantastic riding in the Tushar mountains. Just head up the road up the canyon and park where they have it plowed out by the sign that says to go to big john flats. Follow that road in there a ways and boondock the many, many ridiculously fun creek beds. Then climb your way up to 12,000 feet and enjoy some amazing views! Take a GPS with you, but if you just play off the roads you should be just fine, and i doubt you will see anyone else up there... I cant wait to get back down there!

Phatty, thanks for the info about the Tushar area. I think it will be worth drving a little more for the better riding.

Lonerider, I will PM you later. I actually missed sledding today because my sled partner slept in! Lame. Anyway, I have to go up to Utah county today until Sunday night. A trade for a Fairview trip is possible. Although we usually stay pretty close around our cabin when we ride. There are some hidden gems without all the people that head over to the big hill climb area.

If any of you are going to be riding Beaver/Tushar let me know. i won't be able to ride tommorow.

If you want to see some of the little areas i ridein Fairview check out my YouTube video of being caught up in a little avalanche. It was a bit scary. Here's the link:

Lounatic, What are you doin tomarrow? My riding partner had something come up and can't make it. I'd like to be heading to beaver by 7 am. I live in La Verkin. I have room for another sled.

Dude that is in camp mia shalom (the girls home) i have never seen that slide like that. We ride there all the time. How did that turn out looks like it came and hit the rider. How far down the hill did the avy come down? Iv'e never seen one come to the bottom before there and I have been riding there for 15 years.

Oh yeah btw don't tell too many about those gems aroud there. Its getting too crowded up there as it is. :face-icon-small-win

Do you have a cabin the gooseberry association? (aka skyline association)

I've been up there during the summer (east of Beaver). It is some of the most beautiful mountains that I have been in.

I've been threatening for years to get up there on a snowmobile.

Dude, you can't leave us hanging like that. We need details...

Yamadoo, I thought you would recognize the location on the avy video. I saw your pictures in the powder up on top just after Christmas and commented on them. Yes, my family is part of the Skyline Assoc. We are up the Elk Hollow turn and up on top. Good riding all over and I don't give out the ridng areas to those that are not riding with me. However, YOU just mentioned one of those areas in one of your previous posts :-)

As for the YouTube video story, I was buried for a few moments but my right hand was free and able to dig down to my head and get myself free. I am fairly claustrophobic(sp?) so I had a moment of panic when I was first pinned. But, I was able to dig myself out without any help. My sled took over 20 min to dig out. It was buried on it's top and you could only see one ski. It tought us a good lesson of what only a minor slide can do. The sled didn't even break the windshield.

Let me know if you want any more info.

Ooops sorry about that. I'll try not to mention those areas anymore. :)
Wow that is pretty scarry. How long ago was that? I have some pictures of when the cornis broke off and rolled down into those trees. There were some pretty big snow bolders that came down. We didn't see it happen but that would have been cool to see. Click on the link to see the pictures.

Holy Crap! It looks lIke that happened in the late winter/spring. The snow isn't thick on the onther side of the canyon. If something like that would have rolled up on me I would be done. Those are huge!

The slide that cought me was in 2006. We had no snow for several days/weeks and the bottom layer had been hardend and grainy. Then we got 2-3 feet of new powder and couldn't resist playing. The area is really typically known for big slides anyway. The slab that finally rolled me over was about twice the thickness of a mattress and heavier. One you start to get pinned you are nearly helpless. Although i managed to keep 'swimming' with my right arm and keep in from being buried.

Later that day while fueling in Fairview we talked to some people that started several slides and we also found out 2 people in Utah died that day in avalanches. Gave me a wakeup call.

Thanks for the pics. Ever since that happened I have been interested in avalanches.:o

Yeah 2006 was a good year. Lots of good snow everwhere. We jumped the cornis quite a bit there that year in that bowl as well as the one just south of it. Never saw any slides there though.

In 2007 when Dave Anderson had his accident it really gave me a wake up call on how fast things can happen. It may not be an avalanche that can take you but things can happen so fast up there on the mountain. Showed me that even the most experienced riders can have accidents. I still think of him everytime I ride thru the trees.
