Beating a dead horse

I know this topic continues to come up. I have read and posted a similar topic, but before I want to buy I want to make sure. I have a 2007 M8 153. It has about 1500 miles. I ride 9,000 - 12,000. Current Mods: 2 wheel kit, BDX intake, A ton of hood vents, snow elims, 5.25 riser. I am getting ready to order a slp single kit. Here are my ?'s...

I do not have any vents on the sides (by the clutch and can). Should I do? Any issues with moisture on the clutch side?

I definitely want to adjust my clutch. I have concerns about working on my clutch as I do not have any of the tools and I have never worked on a clutch. Can I do this myself? What should I do with the above setup? Should I just take it to someone?

I have been considering trying to modify by BDX intake. Replacing the plastic intake cover with the original top of the airbox that has the airhorn. Modifying for a direct feed from the horn through the hood for more airflow using a snow filter of some type. Should I even consider doing this? Issues?

Yes I would put clutch vents on next to your side panels. You have good venting up top but no direct flow at the clutches to keep them even cooler. You wont have an issue with the clutches getting wet. As for setting up the clutch its pretty easy to do yourself. You can either get a new spring and a shift assist, or go the full route and get an rkt or cutlers kit. Both really easy to install mods. If you are going to get an SLP single I would wait to do your clutching because that will change your clutching from stock. As for your intake I would just leave it the way it is. If you have the vents in the nose of the sled you should be fine...
 
07 stock clutching at that elevation should be pretty close for the SLP pipe. I would look at a fuel box if you plan on running the BDX intake with it though.
 
It allows you to remove/change the springs and weights without removing the clutch from the machine. Just remove the belt and bolt that holds the primary on. Thread tool in. If you tighten it up so the sheaves get closer (compressed) you can swap weights with the clutch on the machine. Thread it in so it's just snug and you can pull the cover and swap springs out (safely.) No need to come up spitting out teeth....
 
Do yourself a favor and go pick up a dummy clutch tool off ebay. Best 50.00 you'll ever spend. Can change springs/weights with the primary still on the sled. Here's some info:

you can do the same thing yourself for about $5, by a piece of all thread at your local parts store, i think its 7/16nf but i'm not sure. a washer and a nut that fits the all thread, remove the clutch center bolt and thread in the all thread then put on the washer and tighten with the nut until the primary is compressed enough to remove weights, you can also pull the cover bolts, loosen the nut on the all thread and remove the cover to change the spring. i also use this to break down the secondary, after removing the secondary put a nut and a washer on one end of the all thread, put through the center of the secondary and then put a nut and a washer on the other end. tighten until it compresses, you can then unbolt the helix and loosen one of the nuts and decompress the secondary to change the helix or spring. if you need the for sure size of the all thread just let me know and i'll get it for you tommorow.
