Bear River Beacon Check

Just a FYI, we are currently working together with Craig Gordon and the Utah Avalanche Center in getting a beacon check installed at the trail head adjacent to the Bear River Lodge. It will give you the opportunity to make sure you are transmitting prior to leaving the parking lot.

If you haven't had a chance to thank the local avalanche forecasters please do so. They work hard to help keep us safe and informed. They are also very much underfunded. If you can, show your thanks by giving them a donation to help with their efforts.

So who has the one set up in the North Slope parking lot?

BTW, a big thumbs up to our local avalanche forcasters..:D

there is also one installed at the top of Fairview on the south parking lot by the "big drift". Thanks to the Utah Avalanche Center!

Was it just set up recently? Craig may be a little quicker getting it set up than I had thought.

No. So that's why I was asking. The same area was there last year. Just wondering. Get on your sled and go over and check it out for me.:D

Hey y'all, here's the deal-
There is a beacon training park near the Bear River parking lot which is already in place and good to go. You can practice your beacon searches there. With the very generous help from the Bear River Lodge, we'll be installing a beacon checker near the Bear River trailhead in conjunction with the "Are You Beeping" sign.... that'll happen soon. The beacon checker emits a very bright LED light to let you know whether your beacon is on or not.
We'll install the same set up at the Noblett's trailhead soon. In addition, the beacon training park will be up and running at Noblett's once I get caught up with things.... should be later in the week.
Hope this clears up any confusion.

Finally, be careful out there. These are super sketchy conditions.... the kind of avalanches that get triggered from low angle terrain and from a distance. The exact kind of conditions that kill people.
