We broke two yesterday on the "cool kids" ride. We were at the head of Lake Creek on that ridge that runs east 2 west. No one was hurt but the second was a long slide that coulda got dicey if we had been stupid. We weren't so it was more of a hey look at that. it probably ran 400 or 500 yds down the ridge line and left nothing but grass on the hill!

Glad you were safe and everyone is OK. This season, especially the 1st half is going to be interesting. Extra caution needed and "Friends don't let friends ride without beacons"

rich needs to sell on of his many sleds a buy an abs pack

Rich-I got a pm from someone here that has them new for 795 cash only I think

We were never in any danger ( very experienced riders) I still think knowledge is more important than any safety gear you can buy!! They were small hills we were on the one just broke and ran down the ridge. It was more cool than anything. Now if you weren't there don't chime in and start lighting me up.

Kev, won't light you up over something so serious... Glad everyone was being safe.... Just goes to show how unstable the snow pack is this year... We all know Kev can't pull any kind of a real hill so if he is setting them off it must be really bad out there! ;)

And that was the point of this post, the snow is WAY unstable right now. We were clacking stuff all day long. Clack means hitting hard enough to know it there but not tearing chit up. Although there were a few 3rd degree clacks.

I wasn't there, and if you were referring to my post, I wasn't trying to light anyone up. I was just stating that I was glad you were smart and being safe. I hope I am able to have a certain amount of self control this season as I usually am on the edge of stupidity. The beacon comment was in general as I gathered that the point of your post was just about how unstable the conditions are this year and will be...........sorry not trying to push any offense.

Which hill was it? I was up there yesterday and i didnt see anything that had broke.

It was the ridge in the timberlakes drainage.

crazy thing was when the one broke another broke 25 yards away:face-icon-small-con

very unstable for sure.

that was the 5th avy to break up there in 3 rides

Very Well Said !!! Safety gear is intended to help/protect in a bad situation. Knowledge is the tool to keep you clear of those situations.

Clack That's a new one for me. Makes some sense though.

No offense taken, if this thread were on the "open" 4M I would be burned at the stake for not paking it in and running for the truck. The biggest hill we were on was tower. This hill was 1/4 the size of tower.

How deep was the snow? Headed that direction tomorrow and trying to decide Daniel's or Lake Creek.

Glad to hear you're safe and I'll be taking it easy tomorrow.

There was a fair amount. Not sure of the exact depth. I havent been over daniels way but i doubt there is any snow.

I was at a dealer's today and we discussed conditions. Base layer, ice new snow and storm predicted. They said, and I agreed, that someone will go down this weekend! The last time the same dealer and I had that same conversation was on Jan 8th 2005. Sadly we were right. I hope we are wrong this time. Common sense is key, there will be some whacky conditions up there, Stay out of run outs and watch your @*#. Follow the rules and expect the worst. Beacons on or go home!

Let's ride!!!!! :)

Rock have you got your goat back? Between no base (lota clacking) and my lungs Im not in a big hurry to get out. But after Christmas I should be good to go!

Things just went from bad to worse....

with this 70 mph wind you will have heavy wind loading on the north slopes over that ice layer... 3-4 foot slabs just moved to 5-6 foot slabs...
this storm today should be a monster... my knee is feeling it :D
Keep it safe out there!!!
