BDX Pro-lite series inboard idler wheel?

Here's what's left of our two kits:

shaft

I do not know for sure. I plan to call BDX tomorrow and find out. However, the shaft does have to be narrowed to allow 20 ml bearings to slide on for install. It is definately frustrating to spend money on something that is "engineered" to find out it may likely fail when used in the field. I hope this is not the case, but I am bound to assume otherwise in an effort to avoid lost riding time.

My wheels came apart after one weekend of riding. I figured it was because of my cut down studded track I run early in the season so I never called BDX about it. My shaft is OK but I didn't ride this sled much last year.

btw, you may have to trim the parts that contact the rails to be able to get your hyfax on. BDX leaves that part out too.

The stock setup relies on the bolts to hold the steel shaft that supports the shock. The BDX setup is a pile of little parts that end up putting the shock load on the BOLT.

I can't believe there haven't been more failures. I didn't catch any big air during the time I had this stuff on (thank god!)

damn

Sure looks like the prudent play would be to rip the damn parts off. Gotta love lighting 75 bucks on fire.

At that point you might as well run it. But keep spare stuff in the trailer or backpack. That includes the long bolt, as it'll be the first to go!

I also put these on last spring and havent ridden with them yet.
I contacted BDX with the concern of having the same happening to mine. This is what I gather..
They infact have gone to a in house built composite billet type wheel (white in color). Which should solve any delamination problems.(compared to the out sourced black previous wheels)
It seems alot of the falures (granted not all) are happening on the pre 07 skids. This is due to the mounting holes being slightly lower putting an undo extra amount of pressure on the axle kit. If the wheels delaminate from the extra pressure then the shaft obviously has no support and will bend.
Due to the differences in mounting heights they now offer pre 07 kit and a post 07 kit (the difference being the wheel size) and with the new wheels and correct size they should be just fine.
I will see-unfortunatley it wont be for a couple of months.:(

IMO Bdx has always had great customer service. They always seem to investigate and try to resolve any problems common to any of there products on the market. I dont think this will be any different.

I told Mike about this months ago when it happened. He seems uninterested and wanted to blame the bolt for breaking. He had no comment on the second set. He wanted the broken parts mailed back, but I'm not paying for their junk to get sent back.

I had the same thing happened to me. The wheels just wore out and all I have is a paddle track with no studs. I called Mike and he told me to send it back. So I did and what they did was send me to new wheels back that were white. I havnt rode with the white wheels on yet so I dont know what they are like. Also I rode with those wheels wore out like that for probably 900 miles I bet, but never had the shaft broke or bent.

Also almost a week before that I had their two-wheel kit on and that broke right in half. So he told me to send that back but got no warranty for that?

I put a set on last year (the inner wheels at the bend, not the anti-stab) & have about 1600-1700 miles on them, I must have gotten a good set. I wonder if there's a way to tell if you got the bad ones so you can avoid a potentially nasty situation.

I figure if mine have lasted this long, I'm not gonna start worrying now.

It is well worth the money when they do work. Than you dont got that ratcheting noise when the track is hitting that shaft.

I just got a two wheel kit but haven't installed it yet...what were you doing when it broke.

We were out climbing some hills...the conditions were a little icy but I dont remember hitting anything that would break the 2-wheel kit...but apparently they did. But I gotta say that the 2-Wheel kit is a nice thing to have.

sorry took a while to look into this ,

turns out that bolt is grade 8 , the dood at fastnal told me to count the hashmarks on it ,,( there are 6 ) ,, thats a grade 8..

so far im ok with my sets, but will keep an eye on it , thanks for the pics
