BCA 2.0 Radio issues

So my first 2.0 radio stopped working on the mountain. I could hear them but they couldn't hear me. Of course it worked again after getting home and possibly drying out. BCA warrantied it and sent me a new one. On my June 22nd pow day on Buff pass the same thing started to happen. I heard Burandt has been through a few of them last season as well. Anyone else had this issue? The original radios I never had an issue with, they just don't go as far and worse battery life. Starting to think I might want to look into a different brand...

Are you running a frogzskin cover over the mic? Did you try swapping the mic with a different one to confirm if it's the radio itself or a mic/cord issue? Just curious.

No working issues with mine, but it will beep every so often later in the day. Usually after I haven't used it for quite some time. Chalked it up to some type of feature reminding you to shut it off after so long with inactivity.

I do have the frogzskin over the mic. The entire unit was replaced last time. I wonder if water is getting into that little area on the top of the mic unit cause the rubber keeps popping out...

one thing I have noticed is if the battery gets low you can hear but cant send.
Then if you leave it out in the cold over night it will do the same thing until the battery warms up.
so for super cold days I found if you can put it inside your jacket this solves the cold battery issue. Or put some stick on toe warmers on it and put it inside your pack.

I am on my second BCA 2 Radio, First one just started changing channels, then would beep constantly.
Dealer was kind enough to replace it.

I have not seen frogzskin for the new version.

Battery life on both of the 2.0 radios suck, not just a little, like baseball through a garden hose suck. I think it was a waste of money and I am thinking I may switch back to the original radio for this season,

Have you considered the Baofeng radio? I have used these for several years now and am very impressed with them.

BENEFITS
* 5 watts of power (BCA has 1-2 watts).
* can add longer antenna for extended range.
* can program HAM repeaters (emergency use ONLY!!)
* battery life is about 2 days on stock battery.
* can purchase larger battery that will last nearly a week, depending on amount of use.
* Shoulder mic can be added. Radio in pack (where it's warm), antenna sticks out zipper of pack.
* if all in your group has these, you can use MURS channels and NO ONE is on them :)

HERE ARE SOME LINKS WITH INFO ON THESE, AS WELL AS WHERE TO PURCHASE, AND HOW TO PROGRAM.

We had lots of issues with the 1.0 version in our group, traded all the radios in for the 2.0 version. Last winter we had no issues with the radios. I thought battery life was has good or better than the original radios.

I have two baofeng uv-5r, I had the BCA frequencies programmed in, but changed them to the rugged radio's frequencies for the summer and fall to accommodate different activities.

I never did use them in the winter though.

The Baefang's are not hard to program. But it is inconvenient. You don't simply bump over to another channel. You have to type in the frequency of the channel and privacy group. It has a ton of buttons that most users don't need. But the battery life is good and the radio capabilities are stout.

That isn't necessarily accurate. You can direct program them as you state but you can also get a programming cable and program a ton of pre-defined channels in them such as the default BCA and other FRS/GMRS channels as well as common VHF channels and even those for local rescue organizations. Once you use a properly setup VHF there is no going back to the FRS/GMRS/BCA stuff.

Hey Scott,

I'm in need of some Frog Skin Link 2.0 covers, you say "Free Agent" is the one to contact, but I cannot seem to locate him on here???

10-22 on that.......I just found him !!!!

How do I get in touch with her? I think she changed dealerships recently, and Free Agent doesn't show up in searches. Got a bunch of stuff from her over the years and have another big order to place this fall.
