Battle of the sub 5k pump gas turbo setups - Who wins?

I have 3200 miles on a TM8 and still going strong. Preventative maintenance is key. Look it over after every ride, a turbo will find the weaknesses quickly. I run av gas at 10+ lbs and the fun factor for an extra $20/tank is more than worth it. Fiddling with fueling is a fact of life with turbos, there are days when I never touch it, and there are the other days. But remember just a few short years ago we were swapping main jets and dropping needle clips. Now we just push a couple buttons. Boost loves fuel, so run it a tad rich and don't get greedy. I replace parts when they start showing wear and watch my clutches like a hawk. Bottom line is a turbo can be the most fun you can have out of the sheets but they are not cheap or pull and go.
 
Take it to a reputable builder/tuner have him install and tune the sled on the snow and pull the rope and ride the piss out of it. Don't pay much attention to these keyboard know it all's.... A lot of what they are saying is true but take it to the right shop and you won't have to worry about it. Of course you have to look it over a bit and change clutch weights sometimes, but don't you have to do this with stock sleds???

850 hard miles on my sled last year with lots of long WO pulls and never touched anything but a couple clutch belts. I will be honest and say I think my reeds are starting to go though. I only have the A/A intercooler though so the long pulls at 11psi I am guessing was hard on them. I run straight AV

So, you run av gas, your reeds are shot, you have went through 4 belts in 850 miles, you changed weights, you obviously have clutch problems but your reputable builder would have corrected this of course(but he didn't), went to the airport and got fuel many times, you took it to the dealer to look at it.............yep, just like a stocker. Truly, truly pull and go.

its only my opinion based on a small number of builds ive done compared to a number of people on here, but in my experience at our altitude (I'm outside of regina) our only real option to run pump and be reliable with minimal tuning is to look at a 4 stroke. a pump gas 800 (pump gas to me is 91 with a safety shot of torco accelerator or race) wont be too useful at our altitude at only 3-4 lbs boost, possibly less. the yamaha and doo 4 strokes we've built have all run great with minimal issues at 6-8 lbs boost for a really high number of miles (one of our doo 1200s on low boost has 12000 miles now). for running both elevations I would be hard pressed to consider a turbo 2 stroke as my only sled. I know no one asked about, or probably wanted to hear about a 4 stroke, but thats our experience. clutch maintanence and a general checkover still need to be done just like anything modified or stock IMO. installation is key...if not done properly you're asking for problems.
 
It amazes me how stock riders are such haters they only remember the bad not the times they are only dreaming about riding where these mod sleds do the truth is a boosted sled will usually go farther than a stock sled even when there not running right. With that said I come from both camps I have a 270 hp pump gas nytro and I road a 12 summit last year( picking up my t3 on 1/7). I agree with the guy that talked about the four strokes mine have been turn key(I also had 260 hp apex) but they are so fricking heavy I hate riding them and am trying to sell my nytro. But I should also say I have sleds for Minnesota and for snowies. I learned a long time ago it is to hard to try to ride a sled for both places and way to much wrenching for stock or mod. I do truly enjoy the ease of riding my stock skidoos but truly miss the hp. I have riddin with turbo Polaris and cats and they did have extra tuning but clutching was set and mostly was fueling wich was a mater of seconds. The biggest problem I noticed was they always wanted a little more and that caused problems. To me if you are not a fanatic on it running perfect and run it safe 90% on boost is better than a stock sled any day. I have wanted to boost my skidoo a but have been worried about there weak cranks but I am thinking about pulling the trigger. So for those of you that are boosted what do you think what is the best most reliable kits.
 
Who's system have you got and what fuel control?

Aerocharger turbo. Set up by Felkers in Loveland Co. Run Aerochargers system for fuel control. It's not the turbo that works so well. It's how he sets the turbo system up. After 90 plus turbo sled builds without issues he has dialed them in. So that is why I say it is important to find a dealer that has dialed in the turbo set up and knows what he is doing.

Yep I run Av my choice because I want to run higher boost, it can be run on pump if set up for it. Yes I went through more belts then a stock Pro and less belts then a stock Cat. I never changed weights I let the EBC take care of it. Yes I went to airport about as easy as getting it at the gas station for me and about same price as what you pay for pump on the mountain. I NEVER took it to dealer to have it looked at, where did you dream that up? How much more pull and go do you want? I have owned brand new stock machines that are a lot less pull and go... I was told from the get go my reeds were prolly only good for 800-1000 miles...

Issues occour more with incorrect fuel for boost, when a boost change is done, there ussally needs to be a fuel change to accommodate

Low elevation riding is another issue, from lack of octane

Never had reed problems with the Aerocharger, on the sleds I built or seen running... Don't let that worry you
