Base gasget Again!!!

Has anyone experienced this....I only have a couple hundred miles on the last base gasket, I just fired it up for the first time this season and went for a 10 min ride and noticed oil splatter on the jugs again.... right in the same spot as last time I think. Could my head be warped or the bolt to long to get the proper seat on the head? Please help.

P.S. I have a 2006 Switchback 900

Make sure it is not your exhaust gasket leaking.

I read a polaris service bulletin somewhere about adding washers on the bolts because on some of the engines the bolts would bottom out in the hole and even though you torqued them there would not be enough pressure on the gasket.

I am searching for that info but haven't found it yet on the washer. Hopefully one of the other guys on here will know where to find it and exactly what the update says.

That's what I was looking for, Thanks for finding that.

It says the 05 is the one that needed the washer. I would look very closely at your exhaust gasket. At least two of us that I know of had the exhaust gasket leaking on the PTO side and putting oil all over the cylinder right near the base gasket.

Here's a photo. It also shows the cracked intake boot.

i would try the washers under your head bolts and go from there...if you dont already have them, you might have the one with the jacked holes.

Dealt with a couple of base gaskets last year. Pain in the ***!! Just added washers under the cylider bolts, and not a problem since. Also, I used anaerobic sealer on both side of the gasket just to make sure there was a good seal. Recommended by Indy Dan himself. Then I slayed pow all season!

Update

K Hopefully I have found the problem... I have a crack in the slp pipe on the bottom where the bracket is welded to the pipe about 4" long. Cleaned all the oil of the jugs so when I get the pipe welded, hopefully there's nothing on the gasket.

more cracked SLP pipes..every single one is in the exact same spot too...

i have an 06 pipe cracked there also...heard of at least 5 slp pipes being cracked there too in the last month id say...

I posted pictures of all mine here. http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2465975

I think if you welded them up and then braced them like the Dyno Port cans are they would be fine.

Just realized you said the pipes. So the pipes are cracking as well as their exhaust cans? This is not a good thing.:face-icon-small-sho

looking closer again...the can also has a few cracks in the side of it as well where i can see a little oil blowing out.

Did you look at the photos of mine? I had three SLP cans crack on me. They also get oil built up inside before the sled gets warmed up good and then the crack lets air get in and they catch fire inside and get really hot and melt anything nearby.
