Balacava Help

I need a good heavy balacava, I have had frost bite twice on my chin, I have been using a kilm but its not heavy enouph for those really cold days. Any info would be appreciated.

I had a mountain hardware one from a long time ago, it was windproof and waterproof but too heavy for me. The Klim one is almost too much for me. I only wear it when it is really cold.

BTW... once you get frost bite in an area of your body, you are VERY susceptible to get it in the same area, even in a warmer temperature.

I also use the Klim version. The problem with it is that if you pull it up over your nose, the material at your mouth will practically suffacate you. There are several cheaper versions any place that sells ski gear. I'd like to find one that is the same thickness as the Klim in the head area with a little more wind protection at the mouth. I suppose you could also use a helmet mouth cover.

I found one at Big Five sporting goods that is thin over the head but gets much thicker under the opening. The thicker part is fleece and keeps your neck and chin very warm.
I can't remember the brand name but if you haven't found one before I log on when I get home I'll look into it for you.

I have a Seirus face mask it works pretty good, I only use it on the coldest days, usually it is way too hot. Here's one on eBay:

+1 for the Serius face mask - they are available as just a face mask that cover the nose and chin with velcro closure behind your neck... These are sweet for using on the trail over a thin balacava, then you just pull the velcro, and stuff it in your pocket when you get to the hills... Really conveinent and effective!
