JUST...got off the phone with the Mt.Baker Ranger Station...only 17" in Schreibers Meadow right now...no new in forecast. So not open till they get 24" or more!

Ya it blows. Was able to drive all the way up to the bathrooms. Looked promising but just past the bridge the rocks and trees were abundant. Went to boulder field and lets just say i wasn't going to take my new sled past the creek. Another buddy did and said it was decent riding above peanut. Need atleast 3 more feet.......

Sulley - IT IS CLOSED!

Please wait until the Forest Services has opened it!

There was one up there, never said anything. We did not see a sign that said closed. Did we miss it?

They will have a sign that says..".NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES BEYOND THIS POINT"..usually at the lowest snow pack...unless someone has removed or tossed it!!

Mt.Baker Ranger Station phone number***360-856-5700***
ASK for Otis..or Tom,..or Jim for update on Schreibers Meadow!!! IF there is NOT 24" of snow in Schreibers Meadow...and YOU are caught...They will close it down..There is going to be plenty of sledding season this year...Ease up on the throttle finger...It will be opening up soon!!:face-icon-small-coo

C'mon guys, anyone who reads the WA Riding forum knows that you have to have at least 24" in Schreibers Meadows to ride Baker.

Rangers are up there daily and multiple early rides into a closed area could get us shut out of there. Not to mention all the "non-motorized" kooks taking pics of sleds and tracks in closed areas.

I know everyone is itching to ride and breath some 2 stroke smoke, but early rides that are nothing more than trail rides and stump hunting jeopardize the ability to ride one of the best ares in the state when its truly ridable

Sign

Just as you leave the paved highway and are on dirt - sign is on the right?
Need 24 inches + at the bathrooms, if you can drive to there is that an indication?

being part of the ski touring crowd, I know from experience that most of them are foaming at the mouth to ban snowmobiles. WMC trolls this thread and he will probably have an aneurism now.

I hope those dipsh!ts know the next thing to be banned is mechanized.

Its been requested that I delete this post, but I'm not going to.

WMC, as well as other "non-motorized" advocates troll this site daily, in addition to numerous Forest Service Rangers, (a few of which I keep in contact with via email). Whats done and posted is already done.

The best we can do is what we are doing.......

  • Publically policing ourselves.
  • Educating the people new to the area with the local rules.
  • Admitting ignorance of the law and acknowledging it. (Kudos to Sulley for that.) :thumb:
I'm not sure why the Ranger Sully saw didn't say anything to him. Most all of them are very nice and will give the benefit of the doubt to someone who is unaware of specific local rules. They understand people make honest mistakes

What really gives sledders a bad name is those few who knowingly ride in closed and out of bounds areas, this is where policing ourselves really comes into play. These are OUR areas and we have to do whatever is necessary for the betterment of the sport and the sledding community as a whole.

There were a couple of guys up there earlier this week--and they KNOW better--Should call them out, but....

as stated--hold on to your throttle finger boys and girls--there are other places to ride--

Getting Baker closed to all riders would not be cool because you lost control--you might have to move out a state:mmph:

I don't mind, I/we surely screwed up. I'm not given excuses, head was obviously up my @$$. Live and learn. It's just those knuckleheads with nothing intelligent to add that drive me/people nuts in these threads.......
