Baker Snow depth

Was up camping with my boy this last week on Baker....took the Scott Paul trail up and was stoked to find that the last 1/4 mile was all snow to the alpine. Once up, the snow was still 4' deep in most places. Off trail cross country hiked back to Sulphur and found the canyon was mostly melted. Once we crossed and climbed railroad, it was 3-4' of snow again up to the lookout. Had a great night watching the mountain under the full moon drinking the 6 pack I snuck in my son's back pack;)

The glacier still looks like it's March...maybe we add to it this year?

It was actually pretty funny. I stashed them deep in the bag when I stopped at Baker Lake Shell for "beef jerky";)

Then, about a mile or so up the trail when we started hitting snow patches in the trees, he was sort of struggling a bit because the snow was hard and off camber. I started feeling bad but didn't want to pull them out when he was having a bad time so I waited. Once we popped out up top in the sun and huge snow fields he cheered up so I confessed and pulled em out and pounded one down for good measure.

I got some unofficial info from some folks studying the Lyman Glacier on the north side beyond Spider Gap that it has gained 2% back over the last few years of the 10% lost over the previous 10 years.
