The NRA will be closed to snowmobiling starting 7/8/11 due to lack of sufficient snow.
Signs will be posted on 7/7. Please update the MBF internet.
I checked the NRA TH on 7/1 & there was still in excess of 24" on average. Snow is melting fast now & some bare spots (less than 24") were appearing on the snowmobile route past the snowmobile bridge at Rocky Cr. After July 4 snowmobilers estimated that the Rocky Cr. snow bridge which is between Schriebers Meadows & Rocky II suspension bridge site will collapse in the next day or two. When that occurs practical snowmobile travel to upper elevations is thwarted by the creek crossing.
The snow level at the trail-head is quite variable from small areas with no snow to maybe 5 feet near the toilets. So anticipate some questioning about the closure timing. Vehicles were still parking before the NRA sign board on Saturday but some road segments were bare approaching the snow covered parking lot.
