Wow! When can I buy a condo up in Mineral?:face-icon-small-dis

This is gonna make SUWA and Save Our Canyons freak.

We all need to support the effort to stop this expansion!

No, both of those groups will support it ... they'll possibly come out at first saying they oppose it, then after a media charade, they'll support it.

Because they're going to expect the Red Rocks Land Grab Act to go through in exchange for their support for this.

It's all about "saving the environment", right?

Gotta love their long term plans. Back in like 1998 they came to our club meeting right after buying up all of Mineral Basin and told us that they were going to offer services for sledders, that we could ride up to the base of the lift and for a small cost ride to the top on the chair lift and have lunch. We laughed them out of the meeting.

Shortly after, up went the no tresspassing signs and that was the end of it. I said at that time that I was willing to bet that their plans were to take all of Mary Ellen's too... just surprised it took this long to enter the public phase.

This isn't just a sledding issue, there are a lot of wheeler riding and even camping areas up there that they will surely close off.

And if they put that lift up to the top of Twin Peaks then it won't be long before all that area is also included in the lock out.

Yup, going to have to watch this one closely, but not sure it will do any good... they are obviously well funded.

Until we can become better organized and better funded we are just peeing in the wind when fighting these guys! Personally, I have a problem with all of the splintered groups we support. Although I believe all mean well and support our cause(s), it seems we would have much more strength in numbers and dollars if the groups came together to form one strong and united group!

As Kim said it is one thing to bitch about it on here but another to organize and fight. The reason the greenies are winning in many cases is because they are funded, organized and vocal. If we don't take those steps we are complaining for no reason.

My bet is that this will go through but it will take 10 yrs

The environmentalists don't want this plan to go through either, that is probably why Matheson supported a wilderness designation for this area last summer. No matter the cause we need to make sure the environmentalist stay bothered by this proposal, the Bird understands what they are capable of and that is why they are addressed so much in the release to the public, they fear what they can do to this plan. There is zero mention of other users in the area. Wheelers, sledders, bikers campers, hikers and miners all need to step forward here, Snowbird does not recognize our influence.
It is not a lost cause at all, as dysfunctional as these groups are it is our only hope and they have actually had a lot of influence in recent history, it is always getting better, some day soon when the environmental movement is recognized by the annoyed public as officially an expired fad we can relax a little but its full on war right now.:whip:

Sad reality is the land is already privately owned. The sections the forest service wants to measure and review are on the little cottonwood canyon side.
IMO this is already a done deal, its just a matter of time. Probably wont be for another 2-3 years, so go enjoy the scenery, riding, and canyon as much as you can.

Kim is right about organization. How to make it happen is another story. I did send notices about this land deal to Saws and BRC. I dont know what else to do. I do know that i will be parking my sled on top of the twin peaks and taking a ton of photos so i can tell my kids that i used to snowmobile in there. And yes i will be sending those pictures to the forest service with my comments about not allowing this deal to happen.

im just waiting for brighton and alta to join up and put some lifts into dry fork...

If Dry Fork goes I am likely done sledding but I don't think it will because I don't believe it is terrain suited well to skiing and lifts while Mary Ellen is perfect for what Snowbird needs.
