Bad fuel pump

Is anyone else have problems with fuel pumps going bad on 16 and 17 pros? Had one go out on my 17 and the new one is starting to go and the pump on my 16 turbo has a very loud whine to it also. Am I the only one burning up pumps??

I just had one replaced on my 16 that I bought as a hold over last fall. 150 miles on it when it started to fail. I had to find a new dealer to figure out the cause. My old dealer whom I have bought 4 sleds and lots of accesories just left me out to dry cause they couldn't figure it out. They kept telling me they would need to mountain test it but never could find the time. After a month of waiting I was able to get the it into Weller Recreation in Kamas Utah. They figured it out and fixed it. I now have a new dealer even if I do have to drive an hour one way to see them. First class guys and they will get my money from now on. I literally have a dealer 5 minutes from my house but I will be spending my money with Weller's from now on.

First I have heard of it. What are the symptoms when it starts to go out?

My stock 17 will randomly die or cut out. And on my 16 turbo it acts like it runs out of fuel on the top end and starts to cut out and the pumps have a very loud whine to them.

I have a 16 SKS that has a noticable whine when running and it sounds like the fuel pump but sleds runs good. I have another 16 and two 17's that don't make the noise.

Is there a fuel filter that could be starting to get plugged causing the pump to work harder?

i've been curious about mine. i have a 17 and the pump is significantly louder than my 08, 09 and 11. its only cut out once but it was on a short vertical climb in the deep. i chalked it up to exhaust leaking back into the engine compartment but now i'm rethinking it due to how abrupt it was and the loud fuel pump.

The fuel pump starts making a loud whine. Pretty soon rpm' drop from 8300 to below 7000 on short pulls. Then you can't even get over 7000. Mine would run fine for the first 5-8 miles the the symtoms would start. The first dealer just said corrosion on the relay. Cleaned it off and put dialectic grease on it. I talked with the mechanic and asked how it could get corrosion that quick. Only 150 miles and only transported and stored in a garage or enclosed trailer. His response, "well I don't know, I ride motorcycles. I've never ridden a sled. The service manager told me that was probably the problem". So basically they did nothing. After a month of waiting and watching snow melt I was finally able to get Weller's to help me out. They made the diagnosis. The fuel pump was loosing pressure on the top end and running out of fuel. Runs like a top again.

I think that is my problem with my turbo. Its losing pressure on the top end and falls on its face.

You don't have to have the throttle taped to the bars every second your riding it. Let it take a break once and a while. :face-icon-small-win :face-icon-small-hap

fuel pump

Exact same symptoms on my 17 AXYS. After 5 miles, nothing above 7000 rpm. Loud whine that I couldn't pinpoint. No codes. Dealer threw parts at it. Exhaust valves, relays, voltage regulator, only abnormal was fuel pressure was 70 instead of 50. They changed fuel pump today. Fuel press. now normal at 50. Fingers are crossed. Taking it out for a test run Sat. Been screwing around with this for 3 weeks. Maybe it's the Utah snow!

My 2016 with 400 miles just had the pump go this week. Pump started squealing like a pig and when climbing a good pull the motor would cut out. Lucky I video taped the sound for the dealer because when I took it to the dealer and it was cold the sound wasn't there. Once the dealer say the video there was no questions asked.

Yes there is a fuel filter on the Axys RMK sleds. It's part of the fuel pick-up in the tank. Part number is: 2205618. Online is costs around $123 + shipping.
