Backside of West Mountain, behind Tamarack Ski Resort

Went riding over the weekend... left from Donnelly, went up the trail, got up on the ridge and followed it up to just before Tamarack. Once on top we dropped off the West side down to some great boon docking spots. We got about 1/8th mile off the top and ran into signs running north - south just off the ridge saying skiing only no snowmobiles, the signs were spaced about 400 yards apart. These signs were way off Tamaracks property boundrys, to the point that you couldn't see them from the ridge. We rode up to lift and asked the operator and they called down to the operations manager and they said that the signs appeared a week earlier and that they didn't know who put them there. Once by the lift there is a groomed trailing heading off the West side of the mountain and there were signs on either side of this trail about every 50' saying the same thing.

I've gone to land issue meetings over the past few years, including this year. I've always been told that Tamarack had the land on the East side of the mountain with some back country skiing areas including north and south of their property but still on the East side of the mountain.

Does anyone know who put the signs up and why? Pretty much ruins the area if you can't ride this section. We didn't go any farther South, so I don't know how far they go but the lift operator said all the way past Lone Tree.

Tamarack is a HUGE cancer to west mtn riding. North, east, west, and south. Iv herad they have a groomed trail for snowmobiling tours, and I heard everyone has rights to ride them. All though tamarack says otherwise. Thats what someone told me. It would be worth lookin into.

Found out that the Tamarack Nordic center put the signs up. They thought they had that to themselves. They are going to remove the signs and put up shared access signs so they don't get run over by sleds.

so far, the managment of Tamarack has a HUGE history of working wiht snowmobilers and being great neighbors.

For sure there are some individual employees wiht some funny ideas, just like there are some snowmobilers with funny ideas about how to get along.

The ski area is exclusive, I believe everything else is shared use. If you have problems with something or someone specific, drop me a PM, and give me a chance to get it straightened out. I have a name and phone number of a high mucky up at Tamarack who REALLY wants to get along with sledders, and has helped, ummmmm, "educate" employees who didn't understand the system in the past.

Brundage is a different story. They have a long history of flaunting their muscle, and trying to kick sledders out. At the moment, they continue to destroy our snwomobile trails, and despite lip service from managment, their employees continue to destroy our trails, and the owners continue to try to kick us out.

Vote with our wallets folks.

So we all have heard about tamarack trying to take canoe. They have been grooming almost to 44 this year. Are they prospecting for new "ski" areas, or is it for thier guided snowmobile tours?
