Yup.

3 weeks ago i went out riding and had a sled in the back of my truck with the track sitting on the tailgate. As we were leaving I threw my pack in the bed and took off. Morning comes and I go to take everything out and notice the smell of gas coming from my bed and after some searching the gas came from the sled that was in back of the truck and it over flew.. crap! I go to get my pack and it has the smell coming from it to! the bottom of the pack is the worst (if you were to stand it on end) but, basically its just the bottom side is smelling like gas.. really bad!! I put it on our back porch to let it air-out and thought maybe that should help with the smell... Its been sitting out there for 3 weeks and it STILL smells! What do I do now???? am I screwed?

Its been very cold out, but, I dont think that helped the situation much. Dangit!

What now? THANKS!!

Light it up Andrew! :) Literally! ! ! JK. Soak it in detergent overnight and wash it a couple times. Should help. Oh, and Happy New Year bud.

andrew...get some castrol superclean(fred meyers has it in the auto area) soak it with super clean(in the bathtub) then rince till no more bubbles..then machine wash with regular detergent....the superclean will remove the fuel....be careful getting it on your hands..will really dry them out...

pour beer on it...then you wont smell the gas! he he he.

You can also try letting it soak in water and a 2 liter of coke. It works pretty good for grease, it may work with gas. Just let her soak and wash with no soap just coke.

My wife says vinegar will remove smells from fabrics, so you can try that too :)

c-bolt beat me to it. 1/2 a bottle (2liter bottle) of coke. Here on the penninsula that is a trick all the kids at the canneries learn. That is the only way to get the fish smel out of their clothes. I have not tried it for gas smells, but if it will cut fish stink, It will kill fuel smells as well!

x3 on the coca-cola not sure about the gas but i know its my grandma's secret for taking grease out of everyone's work clothes. I'd assume it should work on gas as well.

Put a little vicks in each nostril! If you are out of vicks, try soaking it some baking soda and water.

buy a new backpack.. haha jk.. if it was my cheap backpack, i would burn it.. lol.. whats ur backpack worth for?

light it on fire, when it is done burning the fumes put it out, it is hard to get gas smell out of something, maybe try a bunch of febreeze

Put it in your clothes washer if you have one along with a big towel to help balance the load. Wash it with detergent then air dry. Either that or just put it in the bathtub or deep wash basin and use detergent or liquid dish soap and wash by hand. DO NOT use liquid dish soap in your clothes washer!!

Dawn dishwashing soap.. Do not put it in your washing maching. You will be buying a new machine cause the smell of gas will be in your clothes for the fist few washes after. If you are married, or with a girl you will be screwed as an incompetant male. ( I still do not believe in seperating wash color's)

Or get a bottle of pendelton whiskey, and toast the sacrifice to the fire gods of a good backpack.

Get a new one. Move on in life.

Put a spring roll in it and let it sit a few weeks. Worked for Concreteman. Ah, it's fuqin-stinky-san, ah, we have booth fo you right hah........no waiting! :D
I'd bet the ideas before mine are better, just not as fun for your buddies!

use a product called Oil Eater. Works great can get at Costco and some parts stores Schucks carries it. Spray it on it let it soak then wash in washing machine with more and laundry soap. I use it all the time on my coveralls and all my rags.
