Back in the Game, what to get what to avoid

I feel your pain with financing family rides. Took me 2 years to save for avi gear, gear, sled, ect..for my son.

I bought him a 06 Rev 800 completely stock with a 144 and a new motor with 200km for $4600. Put a smile on his face, this will be the first year that we (together) can get serious about sledding...cant wait!

More excited to have him ride with me than riding a new sled.

Depending on age and the desire of kids and wife you may want consider the older Polaris edge platform for them. Very stable trail machines can get them with a nice 144 paddle track for occasional deeper snow. The 600/700 power plants are very reliable, 2004 and newer will all have the PERC reverse, which in my opinion is required for family travel on trails, some 02 and 03's will have just depends on model. Well within the price point, a decent 03/04 rmk 600 should not be more than mid $2k. Tons of aftermarket parts out there for these both new and used. One other point to keep your life easy, wife's sled needs electric start, this will come back to you tenfold!

The 2006 Rev Summit 800 was about the best year for the Rev. Otherwise, also agree with everyone on the M's and Poo 6 and 700's.

X2 on the 06 Summit 800, best of the breed, and a well kept 04 or 05, especially a 151 or 159 could be good, just have to look for front end damage and not being beat to crap. The Summit rev 600's were great values, too. The 07 Summit 8's needed some updates, and could be a problematic, but two I ride with still run very strong for a 7 year old sled. Really strong. 04 Poo Vertical Escapes were darned good sleds if lower miles, too. My hunch is you'll find lots of M's - watch out for cracked bulkheads and Diamond Drives about to implode.

Beware/stay away from - 05/06 RMK "900" and "700". 08-10 Summit XPs. Anything that says Powder Special.

I had heard of the 05/06 900 rmk being a problem, was it an issue that was ever solved?
I remember the powder specials. I owned a few at one time, the old 580 twin wasn't too bad but that horrible triple 600 and twin 700 were special all right, especially the 700.
