Axys weight loss

Here is a Ti / Carbon pro
Carls 900
Carbon spindles, body work, gas tank, center section of tunnel, clutch cover.
Every single bolt in chassis and engine changed to ti as well as
steering post, a arms, rear skid, skags, exhaust can
Lightweight iceage rails and cross shafts.

The pic on the scale was with a x3 track Carls center punched and drivers (very heavy compared to stock 2.4) all coolant full, oil tank full, splash of gas.

Since this pic the sled has a 2.6 polaris track and drivers (around 10-12 lb lighter if I remember right).

Don't know how you could make a pro lighter than this. Every part was examined.

Maybe only like 5lb more weight loss is possible without thinking outside of box of what a snowmobile is

We all need to step outside the box!

There are still a lot of heavy steel parts on both the PRO and the AXYS that nobody in the aftermarket has made lighter replacement parts for.

For Example;
The ski pivots are still plated steel, they could be hard anodized / teflon coated aluminum, or even Delrin or other suitable engineering plastic. As could the aluminum ski spacers.

The seal protector plate on the engine is still plated steel, it could be half as thick and formed out of titanium, or the same thickness in aluminum, IMO

The torque arm brackets are still plated steel, replacements in Titanium or aircraft aluminum would be fine for that since all movement is absorbed by the helm joint / elastomer. Assuming your bolts are tight and remain tight. IMO

All stock steel hose clamps replaced with Gates Power Grip heat shrink hose clamps.

TI exhaust springs and spring perches.

TI exhaust Y pipe, pipe, and can.

Re-make the wiring harness correctly with quality Arctic flex fine strand copper wire and size it for the load each wire sees. Use quality connectors and eliminate all the useless and redundant wires. While your at it, loom it with quality loom materials and eliminate the two rolls of crappy Chinese electrical tape they use to conceal their crummy loom splices.

I don't know about the AXYS but the PRO had a lot of extra stuff molded into the bulkhead that was never used or needed. Cut it off, thin it out.

I think there is far more to lose if you really look at it from that perspective. I won't shave weight just to shave weight, I analyze the need / stress on every part and look for a synergistic solution that accomplishes making it lighter / stronger, increases visual appeal, AND INCREASES DURABILITY.

Last Year I did a few things for the Burandt build that we didn't get on the web site so yes there is more. That build for whatever reason didn't make it in the spring Snowest issue like it was supposed to. It may be this fall not sure. The new website will have everything new. We're changing over to a cart online order site that should be up before the end of September. Thank you
Dan
