axys 800 pipe shootout

Results for the SSI and BMP were fairly consistent with Dynotechs' results from last December's pipe shootout. The others in the Caputo test weren't included in that group at DTR.

I ran a BMP last spring/going forward, really packs a nice punch, definite increase in power.

For what it's worth I tried the SSI pipe mod on my 16 Axys and triggered DET repeatedly, bought a PCV Fuel Controller from DTR with their fuel map and it didn't help.

Running the BMP pipe and tuner and I don't have the issue.

My take is the pipe shoot out is pure HP drag runs and doesn't equate to everyday real time hi-altitude riding, just my 2c worth, sold the SSI stuff.

SSI pipe mod

Ya SSI told me mine would hit Det if I ran in 91 mode and that it has to be run in Ethanol mode so it gets more fuel. Never hit Det in 500 miles running 9k to 11k feet.

Jaws pipe was a very nice improvement. Seems to work on stock, modified and big bore engines. I have never actually had a pipe make as big of difference as it did on my axys. Engine was cleaner and smoother running from idle all the way up. And it moved the rpm range up, generated more track speed.

Thanks for the info. i just picked up a Jaws pipe. cant wait to see how it runs with it on. Do you have any video of you running the pipe? Would love to see and hear how its working.

The only reason the DET would trip is if the power commander map is was simply set too lean. The majority of our pipe mods go to the mountain regions. And I spend more time riding in Colorado than I do in Minnesota,. The pipe mods works very well at all elevations. It's not designed for drag racing, though it does quite well when you do.
We don't reduce the outlet diameter with our pipe.

I ran ssi pipe mod last year with provided egt resistor, non eth fuel in eth mode. Hit det twice is all, but want to avoid that this year because I can't risk power failure going up something steep. Would I be better to:
1) add a little race gas,
2) put a boondocker progressive timing retard dongle,
3) run cooler spark plugs,
4) get a fuel controller box to richen top end, or
5) get a stronger egt resistor?

Love the power increase...it's real at all elevations and across the power band. I just don't want any more det.

I too got the SSI Pipe Mod last year for my SKS. Didn't get much riding time in as we didn't get much snow here in Maine last year. I do have the Fuel Controller and used the suggested mapping from DTR. In 165 miles I hit DET several times at around 7000 rpm. I also bought another SSI set up for my Trail sled "Pro-S 800 Switchback". This sled ran flawless for 1200 miles. Go figure?? I will say that the pipe produces a nice power improvement although as you will read the pipe creates built up heat on hard long pulls and you will notice some rpm drop. "Little Doggy Feel" One thing I liked about it is that it looks completely stock. This year I bought the new Switchback Assault 144. Would I buy another SSI Pipe?? NO. I've always had good luck with SLP in the past but the Jaws pipe definitely has my interest. :)

Is your Pro-S a 2015? The mapping on the 2015 was richer than the 2016 which might explain it.
