Avy in Indian Creek???

Sounds like there was a wreck and someone is hurt. Chopper could not reach those/him that are hurt. Search and rescue went in. Whoever was hurt is in transit to hospital now.

This is coming second hand from a friend with search and rescue scanner/radio. No mention of an avalanche, however I don't know that there was not a slide either.

Best wishes to those that may have been injured.

Idaho/Wyoming border. Indian Creek that feeds into Palisades Reservoir. Great place but a death trap when snow is moving. Knowledge of the area is so important. It's steep.

Which one? Sun Valley or elsewhere?

BTW, I can't see there to be any sledding at Indian Creek in Sun Valley...but lots of people hike and skinny ski all over that place.

Update:

I'm getting this info second hand so I'll stand to be corrected here.

I have a customer in Swan Valley who is relaying me info from their Search and Rescue scanner.

They were not able to get the guy off the mountain. He was unreachable by the chopper. Search and Rescue is staying with the guy overnight and they will attempt to get him out at first light. Rescue team thinks the guy has a broken back.

Still no word on avalanche, however they are in an area known for avalanches and Search and Rescue didn't want to attempt getting out in the dark. Assumptions are that he was jumping and wrecked.

Again, these are not facts, just what's been relayed to me 2nd hand.

It's cold out there. Prayers would be a good thing right now.

The latest:

I guess they are out. Took the kid out on a stretcher. There was no Avy. Rider hurt his back, not sure if broke or not. May have been able to ride out but didn't due to precautions. Sounds like the guy was in some pain.

Don't know how he hurt himself?

Can't provide injury details, but have first hand experience up there. There are tons of places to jump cliffs/cornices/etc... so could be a good chance that it just didn't go right. If I remember there was a guy a couple years ago that crunched his back huckin a pretty big cliff. My good buddy has seen some hospital time from wrecks in that area. That place is top of the list dangerous for avys, so you better have a dang good idea of where you are going or STAY AWAY from a lot of spots. Hope the injured rider is ok. Everyone stay safe. We don't want to jinx ourselves with as good as things have been up til now.

Lost a good friend (Bart Weeks) to an avy at Indian Creek last spring. Conditions can change up there from day to day. Steep on both sides going in and in places you are riding the creek. One scary place to ride. Was a hoot when I was young and invincible but now that I am old it has lost a lot of it lure. Hope the injuries heal quickly.
