you should be checking this site daily...

Dont trust your life to "i heard somewhere, from some guy, who read it somewhere...etc...etc..."

Last week the base layers from the last couple of months were becoming much more stable and the avalanche danger was decreasing significantly.

Now, with the cold of the last week, followed by the daily dumping, the danger is VERY HIGH.

be safe

for sure learn for yourself what to watch for. It's not worth the risk to go on hearsay....

Saturday morning at Gold Creek there was a good 2" surface hoar layer. You could hear it hiss as you cut through it. Storm kicked in, and by 3pm when we were heading back the fresh 3-5" was already sluffing. I was rolling some downhill and just pushing a good sluff the whole time. Now, we got what, like 18" in most places? Danger danger. Be wise on your terrain selection.

Conditions--EXTREME is Understatement!!

Layering is a minor statement--terrible year for avy's.

The current conditions are un real---Extreme AVY danger is a understatement right now!!

With last weeks hore snow as much as 6" and the new of close to 3' right now and building to probabley another 3' by saturday--It is crazy.

A hoot to ride for sure---But use your brains. Everyone be packing avy gear and be prepared for sure.

Worst Avy conditions I have seen in 30 years!! I survived a avy I was caught in up at Gallagher about 4 years ago---Not agian if I can help it.

H20SKE...

AND know how to use it - if you don't, ask someone who does........ wearing a beacon and carrying a probe and shovel will not make you immune........

or better yet....... play where it's safe.......

When you guys are out in the field you should find a slope that is the same aspect as the ones you play on and dig a pit with your shovel.(in a safe zone) Even if you don't know exactly what you are looking for it'll give you a great picture of what everyone else is talking about in regaurds to layering and hoar frost. You will definitely see the unstable layer. It helps to take away some of the mystery about whats going on out there. Glad to see everyone is "head up" about this. Oh yah and you need to dig that pit deeper than the one your track makes:)
