aviation gas in a snowmobile? problems?

Ran it for a while in my sled, used to get sumped fuel for free. Then one winter I started having issues with my powervalves. Seemed like the avgas was making them sticky. Kept throwing the code for servo error, can't recall the number right now. Switched to 91 cleaned powervalves haven't had any problems since. Still run it on occasion. Can't prove it was the avgas. 2007 M8 by the way.

Well there's your problem - sumped fuel, nothing like gettin the crap they throw out to put in your sled.

I have ran 100LL for many years not one issue, with N2O and without.

Being a pilot since 2000 I have near found water in my sumped fuel. If I did I would raise hell with my FBO. Should never be water in the fuel, so on that note sumped fuel should be fine to run.

Just my thought

Most race fuels have lead, correct? Does 100LL have more lead than the leaded race fuels?

Av gas does make less power than race gas but the amount would be hard to measure even on the dyno. Av gas has a fairly slow burn rate so that why it works so well in turbo applications. It chemically retards the ign timing. It's vapor pressure is less than most race gases so it does become a little hrader to start in very cold weather. Other than that it works just fine.

LL in the 100 LL stands for low lead. I have been running Av in my turbo Nytro for the last two seasons and it has been great. It cost about the same as premium and is waaayyyy cheaper than race gas. I did not lose an o2 sensor until about 1500 miles on my Nytro. This subject come up every couple of months on here and people will argue back and forth, but I know a lot of people who have ran Av in sleds and it has worked great. It did start a little harder at -20 though, but any colder than that and I did not want to ride anyway.

We only run the av gas in our carb sleds. We always make sure to mix 5 gallons of it with a full tank at the end of the year on the last riding day as it won't gunk up the carbs and the fuel system. The av gas has a greater shelf life >>>>.

I was always told that AV fuel is designed to be burned at low RPMS of airplanes...ie 3000 to 4000 tops.

Sleds don't even engage the clutches until 3500 to 4000.

I was always told on here NOT to use AV gas in sleds. It's not designed to burn at 8000+ rpms.

av gas is fuel it will burn just like gas but with a higher detonation level. We ran it in our stock car at 7200rpm all day it gave us 18hp on the dyno over 94 pump gas

Well golly-gee...it burns pretty doggone well at 8600 in my XCR-800. Also burned pretty well in my Evinrude 90 jet-motor, Johnson 175, Arctic Cat 570 fan-cooled....and my saws: Husky 394, 3120 hot saw, a few old David Bradley's from the '50's. Smells good too.:D

Well golly gee...I didn't say it WONT burn at all...it's gasoline... course it will burn in other engines.

My point is that it's designed to have it's optimal burn at the low RPMs of airplane engines.

I think your thinking this because aircraft engines r designed to run at lower rpm levels with high compression were as most power on other motors is made at high rpms the fuel gives no horsepower gains to a standard lower comp motor because it burns slower and takes more to get it to exploded. Squeeze it hard enough and it will exploded fast enough at any rpm level.
I think this makes sence

It burns just fine in this

oh wait it's an airplane :D

My flight instructor and I have both ran avgas in our sleds and quads for years and never had a problem. Any racegas company will tell you that avgas won't run at high rmp, that it's made for lower rmp motors. I've ran it in my modded-out banshee at 9,000 rmp for years and never had a problem with it. 100LL works just fine in my motors that take straight Sonoco 110 race gas. 110LL avgas actually has 2 octane ratings, 130 rich and 100 lean. I've heard a lot of trash talk about running avgas in sleds and quads, but I've never had a bit of trouble with it. And it's cheaper than race gas :D

locally i can get 100ll for $4.20 a gall or 110 for $9.xx

and im gonna be mixing it for my boosted sled as its still cheaper-ish and i like the lead does a motor good.

how do you go about buying it can i just show up at the airport with a 55gal barrel and buy it or do they need a tail #
