Hello everyone,
Here's an update on the AviVest avalanche airbag.
We are almost completed with our testing at -30 degrees below zero for extended time periods and on January 25th we are scheduled for final avalanche testing in the Ruby Mountains in Nevada near Elko.
The testing at extended periods of time at frigid temperatures is critical. Sure, not many people are out there at minus 30 but say you accidently leave your vest outside overnight and it drops to that temperature. To get a mechanical valve and its metal parts to properly function at these extreme temperatures is difficult as the metal contracts and changes shape, causing parts to fail if they are not properly designed and tested.
As well, as we have said before, we firmly believe in actual avalanche testing of our device and we modified a part in our gas delivery system during the cold testing and we would not feel comfortable putting the devices out there until we had actually tested them in several class 2 avalanches.
Having said that, sorry to everyone we made promises to at shows and on the phone, but we do not want to hurt someone by selling the AviVests before we are done testing. If the testing in Nevada goes well we hope to be able to start shipping in February.
We will post pictures of the testing here.
Thanks everyone.
