Avalanche !

The problem with most classes are they are not specific to sledding. While many of the same skills transfer, many do not, or apply in differant ways. I had big problem taking a class from backcountry skier when I sled. The two sports have such differant risks !

Look to Snow1, Mike Duffy, I enjoyed his class and plan on taking it again with the wife !

Plus he's a coloradan, knows the challenges we face

x2 on Mike's class. I'll be taking it again as a refresher this year if he comes close enough!

Forget all else and just remember 2 words------ Mike Duffy. He will be having classes all over starting this fall. Excellant class and individual!

I highly recommend Mike's avalanche class. For details of his schedule, you can email him at duffyww1@aol.com or call 970-390-9433

I'm sure he'll be doing a show again at the Denver Snow Show, which is October 10-11

Thanks for recommending the class. I'm glad it met your expectations. The class has been upgraded this year with powerpoint, new techniques, new equipment, new video and more terrain evaluation. I am confirming the schedule and will post it soon. Will also be having field sessions (Four hour avalanche beacon and rescue ) in three states. Great way to get hands on experience to learn to rescue effectively.
I'll be at Hay Days promoting avalanche education in booth E28. Please stop by. We'll have new beacons to try and hopefully can answer any of your questions. Bring your own beacon and we'll show you some tricks to using it. Will also be deploying avalanche airbag packs. I can't wait for it to snow. Mike Duffy

Mike's classroom is very good, but everyone should also go to his hands on class. I did it last year on Vail Pass and it was a real eye opener as to how a beacon really works and what is really required to find someone. Very good class and highly recommended.

Skidoobydoo,
FYI:
The link you gave for Colorado Avalanche classes takes you to The Backcountry Snowsports Alliance website who's goal is " To preserve and protect a quiet non-motorized winter recreational experience." Not a very snowmobile friendly group. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Mike Duffy

holy cow! i didn't catch that.
quit reading their stuff given all the above reviews of your classes

.

Mike is the best in the business with regards to the snowmobiler. As you have seen, he is an active member of the 4m and more important a active member of the snowmobile community.

He is not only a great and insightfull instructor(for snowmobiler safety), but a good person whom will befriend anyone he teaches and do his best to answer your questions even after the class. Above and beyond.

Scooby,

We are thinking of attending the classes at the Snow Show this October if they are having them again. If not I will prolly attend a session at Colorado Mountain college up here in Summit County or Steamboat. Pretty good classes from what I have heard

I'll be teaching at the Snowmobile Show in Denver this year and also for Colorado Mountain College (Vail/Eagle Valley Campus) on Vail Pass starting in January.
Classes in Denver will be on Saturday October 10th 9am-1pm or 5pm-9pm or Sunday October 11th 9am-1pm. Email me to sign up: duffyww1@aol.com
