Avalanche Farmington

This whole story is incredibly heart wrenching! I will continue to pray for the best for his family and friends. I can't even imagine what his friend is going through and what a rough day he had and the week he is having. I encourage everybody to donate at least a little to the trust fund they set up. Maybe even consider what you spend on a single ride and donate that amount to them. After all god answers prayers through people.

I'm with the above comments.
Completely speechless right now. That's a situation I just can't fathom.
Sorry for all involved in such a sad tragedy. :brokenheart:

please tell me that rouge snowmobiler stopped to help after he ran the truck off the road? good night... that might be the worst day anyone has ever had... lose your good buddy in a freak accident, then lose your truck and trailer down the canyon... i dont know how you walk away from that unharmed... unbelievable. :brokenheart::brokenheart::brokenheart:

Speechless is about it for me too. :brokenheart: :face-icon-small-sad :brokenheart:

Everything about this is just...........wrong.......bad........horrible......

My thoughts and prayers to ALL involved.

Can someone post a link of where to donate? Is there a PayPal account, or some site to be able to do this? I don't know what Zions is......bank? Don't have whatever it is around here.......so I need a link so I can do something.

I looked through their site tonight to find a place to donate and could not find one. I will call sometime tomorrow and see if I can post a link to where you can do it online. Zions is a rather large Utah bank.

Thank you mtnpull! This just is eating away at me. It hurts......and it plays through my head. It absolutely is horrific. :brokenheart:

If there is no online place......snail mail will do. Hopefully there is something online as I think it will help for others to donate too. Either way, I want to do something.

I am just speechless.... I cant even imagine what his kids and his friend are going through, what a horrible day :(

all losses are terrible but this whole story is just unbeliveable as it futher unfolds. my deepest regrets to all involved. :brokenheart::brokenheart:

Thanks for posting the email and the pictures. I don't even know what else to say. What an awful day.

Is there to the story about the guy who ran him off the road? Did they catch up with that guy?

I just spent some time on the phone with Zions and they couldn't find a donate account under Lee's name. They said once we find the account you can either send a check, do it over the phone or at a branch. If anybody has this account info so that we can donate, then please, please post it up.

And for those you that don't live around here or have never driven Farmington Canyon in the winter, with a trailer and sleds behind you.... it's no cake walk! T

That road is 1 to 1.5 vehicles wide and usually ice packed in most places as the FAA keeps it open to get to the radar towers in the pics. Not to mention that its' a very steep (what, 60*+ angle?) canyon and very deep as well.

Most that take a dive off this road do not fare well. As bad as this day was for this guy, I think he will one day feel that he cheated death twice that day.

Thoughts and Prayers!

ava, thanks for forwarding that email.

the other two slides that occured on sunday up there were also from the riders riding along the ridge about 20'-30' back and the cornice broke off.
it buried a couple sleds but luckily no riders.
they were both south of the towers

scary stuff

be safe all

A couple of years ago I saw a map that said that area was off limits to over the snow motor vehicle (snowmobile) travel. Everything on the ridge north of the radomes was restricted.

Am I wrong?

I have never heard of that. I know that doesn't help but i've ridden up there for years, even talked to the radar guys up there a few times. Your post is the first time i've heard of that.

I know they don't want the public around the towers anymore. I've given the FAA a bid to fence it off three years running (just the towers) but i guess they're just not ready.

Farmington is a love hate relationship, the road up ruins it. You pray the whole way up and down that you don't come across another vehicle, especially pulling a trailer. And you'd better know how to back a trailer down an icy winding narrow road til you get lucky enough to find a place wide enough for two. The forest service want's to redo the road but unfornately they would pretty much have to do the whole thing and it's too expensive. They tried to get some money when obama was giving it away (stimulus) but it didn't work out. So it's not going to happen for years. Til then I'll keep driving it puckered up.

LEE SKEEN GARDNER
Lee Skeen Gardner 1967 ~ 2010 Lee Skeen Gardner was born Jan. 13, 1967 to Blaine and Carolyn Gardner. He died April 4, 2010 doing something he loved, snowmobiling in the mountains above his home. Lee is much loved and will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind, but is happily reunited in heaven with his wife, Carol Larson Gardner, who he loved with all his heart. Lee lived for his children Amanda Kartchner, Travis Gardner and Luke Kartchner. They were his world and he has been both mom and dad to them the last 10 months since Carol passed away. Lee is a fixer. He could fix anything from a diesel engine to a killer pot roast. He worked for over 23 years at Jack's Tire and Oil. He had a gift with salt water aquariums. He loved fishing and could tell a great fish story. Lee is Christ-like, a true friend, and has a heart of gold. He would very literally give you the shirt off his back. Lee is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is an Eagle Scout. Lee is survived by his parents, his children, his brothers and sisters: Blaine Gardner (Elaine), Paul Gardner (Michelle), Carol Carroll (Roger), Jean Doty (Brent), Ann Fouts (Matt), Val Gardner (Heather), Barbara Baker (Troy) and Mary Hayes (Joe), tons of nieces and nephews and his dogs Sadie, Becca and Autumn. Heartfelt thanks to Randy Olsen for taking care of Lee till the end. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:30 in the Bountiful 2nd Ward Chapel, 650 South 200 East. Visitation Friday April 9th from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main or Saturday at the church from 10-11 a.m. Come share your favorite "Lee" story.

WOW! Unbelievable. The poor kids that don’t have a Mother and now a father…………….:face-icon-small-sad

Well - I guess that I will post here about Lee. I have known Lee for quite a few years. There wasn't a better person and one of the nicest, caring and compassionate people that you could know, I am proud to call him my friend. He would do anything that he could to help someone out. We spent many hours resurrecting my trailer. He was damn good with tools in his hands and solved some electrical issues that others could not figure out. Losing his wife was quite difficult but he had a great belief in mankind and life. Lee will be greatly missed and that is a true compliment to the person that he was. RIP Lee.
