Avalanche Danger!

Utah as well as several other states and locations have been blessed with heavy snow this year. Along with this comes serious avalanche dangers and risks. I just wanted to remind all of you to practice using your beacon while you are out riding. Throw it in a snowbank and you and your buddies can practice finding it, takes only a few minutes and there is no excuse not to do this.

Alot of people do not perform well under stress, and unless you have SOME training using this beacon, you have virtually no chance of surviving! Protect yourself and make your buddies practice! OR DIE!

Along with this, why do I see guys all day get stuck highmarking and their buddy(s) immediately shoot up the mountain to get him un-stuck. This is dangerous, let him dig for a while and get out by his own self.

OR, if I get stuck, why does some billy bad zass instantly poach my trail and come up and around me as if to show off? Keep away from me, I would rather not die in a slide because you set something off above me. PULL YOUR HEAD OUT AND GIVE ME A MINUTE TO GET UN-STUCK.

SORRY, I feel better now! Anyhow, just want everyone to use your noggins and come home safely after an awesome day playing in the mountains.

Exellent points.
I agree with everything you say.

May I add that education is the best way to prepare yourself.. Know what types of weather, and the history of the snowpacks have occured in your area., test the snow, many places will be different from the Avalanche forcasts.

Watch where you park, observe runouts, and terrain.;... I am suprized how many traps I was just sitting in, until I realized it....

1/ Nothing pisses me off more than seeing some GOOF highmark above a stuck rider..If you screw up...he takes your sled at MACH 3 in the face..

2/ Could not agree more with the post. Sledders now count for almost 50% of all Avalanche fatalities. Read the stats, take regular courses and learn how to stay off the list.

Absolutely buy and wear a beacon it is a must in the back country...and get an ABS back pack or other. You cannot take this stuff lightly as todays machines do indeed take you way cool places... PLACES THAT ARE 100% DEADLY.
