Been working on this for a while now, looks like the date will be Feb 9th. please either post here or call me to let me know who is interested......605 381 9144.

Specifically for snowmobilers

Avalanche class coming to Rapid City, SD​

Classes are effective, proven and affordable.

Learn: How to avoid the most common mistakes, what equipment works best, how to rescue effectively, evaluate terrain, avoid terrain traps, analyze stability and increase your skills in the mountains.

Cost $45 Must sign up in advance. Limited space.

Take the class with those you ride with.

Four hour avalanche awareness, avoidance and rescue class.


Instructor: Mike Duffy. Level I & II Avalanche instructor Colorado Mountain College, rescue/avalanche team leader/avalanche mission coordinator Vail Mountain Rescue Group, instructor Walter Kirch Avalanche Seminars, graduate of National Avalanche School, National Academy of Winter Guiding. Mountain Snowmobiler for 20 years. Member American Avalanche Association.

Course content:
-Introduction to avalanches, statistics, contributing factors.
-Avalanche reports.
-Signs of instability/stability analysis.
-Equipment.
-What to carry and what works best.
-Avalanche beacons.
-Fast and effective single and multiple burial searches.
-Rescue
-Avalanche survival methods
-Effective hasty search techniques.
-Mistakes in rescue.
-Group Dynamics/heuristics.
-Slide show: Terrain Evaluation/terrain traps.
-Preparing for your trip.
-What to do if lost or injured.
-Stability tests.
-Scenarios.
 
This is a very informative class. I know as I've taken it and would strongly recommend it to anyone who rides out west. The only thing that surpasses the job Mike has done organizing his material is the way he presents it! Keep up the good work Mike!
 
Went to his class in NW IA last night, excellent class the hours really fly by, lots of good useful information!! A must for anyone snowmobling out west!!!!!
 
I just wanted to thank you again mike for coming all the way out here.. great course and info..


For anybody reading this that has.. 1. never had a course or 2. never had one taught by mike... Get to one.. lots of great info and scenerios for avy's..

Hope you can get back here next year for a on the hill course..
