As of Sunday the 5th the parking lots have one pass thru them with snow in the center and no grooming.
Grooming report -
11/24/2010 First report, 2010, plans and conditions for the Strawberry Snowmobiling Complex.
We have established December 15 of each year as the time that we want to start the grooming schedule. This is not a hard date. The actually time for us to start, whether before or after that date depends on several factors, mainly snow conditions. However, keep that date in mind because that is our target date.
Currently, the snow cat, and equally important, the plow truck is scheduled to be delivered around December 1st. Grooming will begin between these date weather dependent. It is just important that we have sufficient snow depths at the lower elevation to prevent undue wear and tear on the snow cat and premature equipment failure later on in the season when the majority of riders are using the trail system.
Our first priority will be to plow out the parking lots that will provide a safe place off of Hwy 40 for people to park. Again the strategy is to have the parking lots receive some snow and have a chance to become a little compacted before we plow. This is to reduce the amount of wear and tear on the plow and truck, which can occur when plowing into the gravel. We are assessing the parking lot conditions today and will plan on plowing accordingly.
Another situation that may have some effect on the grooming operations is the current construction status of the Strawberry UDOT maintenance facilities. As of today, the fuel tank where we refuel the snow cat is not in operation. I anticipate that this will be up and running sooner rather than later. We may have to make some adjustments if the tank we use to re-fuel is not up and running. I anticipate any adjustment will not be major at this time.
In summary, we are still using December 15 as our target date to start grooming operations but may start earlier depending on snow accumulation at the lower levels. We will begin assessing parking lots and begin plowing those as the need arises after December 1st.
Remember, early snowmobiling produces allot of hidden dangers such as rocks and vegetation. Wear a helmet and find the time to go through all of your equipment. Think through what you would do if you got stuck or broke down and make sure you have those things necessary for you to survive a worst-case scenario.
